Kbc Helmet Recall

Dont know if this has been posted here yet or not, but KBC is having a recall on certain helmets and being that we have sold hundreds of these and I know a lot of you wear these, this maybe a thing that needs to be a sticky!

phew... mine is 1-30-02. was worried there for a min.

anyone know what safety standard 218 is?
 
quick, go buy somebodys old KBC for $25 and get yourself a new helmet!!!!! Although that is only a 35 day window of manufacture, so it might be hard to find one.

That recall addresses the TK-9, which I believe is relatively new. The TK-8 and TK-7's can still be purchased at some shops (got a -7 on clearance for Xmas present).

KBC also makes other helmet models (the VR-1, VR1 Euro, etc etc). One model does not a bad manufacturer make.

Actually, I'd go the other way with it. I think it's cool that a company is being pro-active and recalling a helmet that they found a problem with. Notice that it only affected a five week window of manufacture (I'm pretty sure that the TK-9 has been out almost a year).

In general, I think the KBC's are a great value for the money. Not the latest and greatest, but a good safe helmet for a great price. I'd probably be sporting one if I didn't have enough dough for an Arai.

And it's good enough for Matt Maladin...
 
kbc's are just as safe as arai's or shoei's, but at a much cheaper price, hey if u guys are smart, go to motorcycle closeout dot com's site and check out the blemished euro vr-1's, they only 95 bux and they are not as "blemished" as you think, i got my nice ass red/blu for 103 otd, its...saved me so much fricken money, hahaha arai suckers, and i love arais and shoei's the same
 
I was wondering cuz I just picked up a TK-7 at Cycle Gear for $50-10%. It's actually a nice looking helmet and it fits. I love Arai's, but I just don't have Arai type funds right now:(

And if you want a comfortable helmet.....nevermind:green

I dont understand how people can spend thousands of thousandes on a bike but can get a couple hundred for a descent helmet:confused
 
I have no complaints with my KBC helmet. its comfortable, i like the way it looks. The only thing is i wish it were quieter, though every helmet out there probably has that issue.
 
Arai, Shoei and KBC all are Snell approved. KBC also lists BS 6658 TYPE A and ACU approval, no idea what those are, though.
I like my VR-7 :thumbup.
 
whatever dude, all helmets are the same once they pass the snell/dot or the other country equivalent, or better tests, after that its weight and designs, every1 knows that, stop being an arai nazi, and i would never pay for a helmet that is complete crap cuz i understand that your head is worth as much as ur helmet. and dont act as if arai or shoei never had recalls, if you think they are so perfect, then go crash in em

First of all, 218 is the DOT standard. second, KBC helmets are NOT BSI certified, only Suomy helmets are actually certified to comply to any standard - all the rest currently are simply based on a standard, but offer no assurances that the helmets will actually meet any standard.

Furthermore, just because various helmets are based on the Snell standard (or DOT) does not mean that they are as safe! Some helmets perform well below the max acceptable energy levels and some don't even comply (as demonstrated above).

I think it is extremely dangerous for people who know nothing about helmet standards or construction to make statements such as some of these! Please people, use your heads.

Anyone wanting facts about helmet design, safety and construction can e-mail me or reply to this post. I can share with you quite a bit of what I have learned over the last 6 years importing helmets and taking helmets throught various testing standards.

ok ok, im just saying u dont need a super expensive helmet to ride safely, and mayb arai's or shoei's give u to much of a security blanket when you ride, eh bleh
i mean giving u a false sense of security
 
By the way, that's why EVERY Suomy helmet is BATCH CERTIFIED before they leave the factorty floor! Defective, or non-compliant helmets available to the public is something that should not be tolerated...
