Ktm bankruptcy

They sure make a nice dirt bike, and I appreciate the clear and useful service manuals. Unlike Ducati with their no-right-to-repair bullshit, and BMW now too it seems. Though I make fun of KTM - best wine to pair with the cheese cams? - I hope they pull through and continue making nice high end stuff on the other side.

I have an older 500, a TE250, and a pre-KTM GasGas trials 125 to tide me over in the meantime.
 
I had one and it needed a lot of attention out of the box to prevent potential issues.
Stupid stuff like fan rubbing on radiator, sharp corners on fairing mounting tabs rubbing holes in radiator, weak subframe bolts, engine mode switch hidden under seat…
 
There seems to be two KTM camps. Those that love them, and those that've been burned by them and hold deep resentments forever. Frankly, I haven't seen too much middle ground.
Simply put, KTM just provides too much ongoing drama for me to climb aboard.
I also fucking hate the color orange....so there's that.

I lean towards the latter after the infuriating experience I had with my 701. After a dozen or so interactions with KTM (separate from dealer direct or via dealer) I came to the conclusion that they don't like their customers. Yamaha went out of their way to help me if ever I had an issue... KTM always seemed irritated that I reached out, particularly that I wasn't happy with the many issues (to the point that my bike was nearing slam-dunk lemon-law status).


But, given my use case and available options at the time, the 890 was the bike that ticked the right boxes for me. Light weight middle-weight (that felt uncannily light between the legs... R3-like), torquey, somewhat upright seating position, wide bars, Cornering ABS + TCS (particularly rain & track modes), and priced well for the performance.

All that said, now that there's no particularly strong case for the 8/980 over the MT09-SP, I don't think I'd own another KTM. Even more-so now that my closest and favorite dealership (Mach-1) is gone. I have a calendar reminder setup to go off every month, starting last month, to sell it before the extended warranty is up. It expires April 2026... so I think it'll be on the market by Aug/Sep this year.
 
The HD thing is....different. And refreshing. I didn't get till I tried it and man, it's pretty darn fun. Bike's have been plenty good so far, too.

I agree with everything said here regarding KTM, Harley and the MT.
I have a 890r for the track and love it (minus the tank shape), but I would have second thoughts on pulling the trigger on a KTM adv bike for all of the reliability/parts issues.
They are sweet, though!
All that said, I am still eyeing a 790 adv.
I have a hard time getting away from finicky twins in orange and black.....
 
Nothing but joy for me since 2006 on KTMs (dirt only) and 10 years on a H-D. Not discounting others issues, just nudging the anecdote meter back towards the middle.
 
The only reason I bought KTM products was because Yamaha didn't offer anything comparable. IMHO, Yamahas tend to be less expensive, more reliable, and easier to work on.
 
I love my 2007 superduke 990.
Been reliable but Hope parts don’t become too hard to get.

I'm sure all those suppliers love to see Ktm spend millions on MotoGP annually and ignore past due bills.

Curious why they don't funnel $ into the brand instead of burning it at the track

KTM a fully Indian Moto Company.

Worries me a bit, but the new world order.
 
Only the smaller 390cc and under are made in India, basically the soft-steel bikes, which makes sense since the rest of the world dominates that segment. I like the idea of everything 450cc and up being made elsewhere, the more serious bikes.
