KTM Facing massive loss

Well that sucks. Just when I decided I want one. :facepalm

I think it’s a future thing. As interest rates begin to fall what you’re looking at will continue to develop. I believe that their satellite brands are killing them.

Gotta admire the BMW advertising on the link.

corporate objectives in big business are crazy

Dimitry's spot on. Recession here we come. Set the table please...

During a period of a several years in the 1980's when I was a teen, it was very common to be able to buy a dirt bike still in the crate that were 2 and 3 model years old, heavily discounted. That was a combination of the motorcycle manufacturers producing bikes at the same rate, anticipating the same year over year growth that the industry came to expect in the 1970's to continue... and a recession.

Not sure I'd predict a recession for the economy as a hole, but certainly a much needed slow down in my humble opinion. Powersports company's like KTM that anticipated sales and growth rates we saw for a short period to continue at the same trajectory, were certainly off.

I'm not surprised, given their questionable reliability, there failure to address known issues, and their lack of dealer support. I really like their specifications, light weight, good power, etc., but would never buy one. Two of my friends that own them told me "don't buy a KTM for your only bike". One has waited almost all summer for a head gasket.

Yep, I really wanted the Duke 890. Will probably get a MT-09.

As long as they have the "demo mode" (pay-to-unlock features already on the bike) I'm not buying a new KTM.

Still loving my '22 890 Duke R, still in "Demo" mode. Plenty of power & super fun but for me it's just a toy. :ride

I think using manufactures that sell expensive toys falling on hard times mostly due to interest rates as a sign of recession is a stretch. And interest rates a very likely to start coming down next month :banana. Buy your Vanguard 500 shares now

There are myriad reasons for a slowing powersports market but a part of it might be a hangover from the pandemic buying spree.

I've been drinking the orange kool-aid since 2006 and think the reliability stereotype is greatly exaggerated.

how is your 22 still in demo mode, so everything is unlocked without paying for it?
Is this some flash thing you did to ecu?

I guess I didn't understand Demo Mode. I didn't pay any extra & Sport is plenty fast for me. I thought I would want the Race electronics but I'm happy with what I have. Not even sure If I'll get the Akrapovic exhaust. The front end comes up so often in Sport mode I hardly even use it

Ehh, not in my anecdotal experience. I've own 6 Yamahas and I think there's been 2-3 issues, combined, between all of them... despite beating on them and neglecting them far worse than I ever risked with my KTM/Huskys. My 701's motor grenaded twice between 14k and 22k miles (along with a dozen other smaller failures/issues like water in the gauges, broken rear brake return spring, leaky countershaft/head seals, etc). My 890 has been better but not exactly flawless; leaky countershaft, leaky valve gasket, finicky cruise control (occasionally refuses to acknowledge that it exists), 3-5x random limp mode instances for unspecified reasons (thankfully fixed after a restart), and a few other niggles.

That said, I've LOVED riding both, the 701 and 890, they fill a niche for my interests/needs that few other bikes/brands can touch (especially aesthetically, IMO). That said, now that the MT09 is more-or-less at performance parity, if I were to replace my '20 890R, I'd go with a '24+ MT09 unless I got a screaming deal on the 990.
