Lane sharing in a Tango: What are your thoughts:

LOL

I did some more research about the Tango after work. He has a website:

http://www.commutercars.com/

and George Looney took delivery of one, so it must not be all bad... :rolleyes

......

Douchebag...

:laughing good post!

Did you catch this part:
"Update 2006.10.26: The Gallery has been updated with photos of George Clooney's black Tango, the first we've delivered."

Did I read that right, the FIRST one they sold was last month? Is there only ONE of these on the road and it's owned by Mr. "Looney" Hmm, maybe he's had it for years, but they finally took a picture last month...

Doesn't make sense...citing the Gold Wing for lane splitting is like citing a Yugo for acceleration.

I mean, technically yeah - but would anyone CHOOSE it?

The real question is... If you were sharing, and this thing came up on your six, would you move over to let them pass?

I'm thinking let them go to the 2/3 split! :twofinger

I routinely share lanes on a cruiser, but it's a small one. I spend entirely too much time bobbing and weaving to avoid mirrors and drifting cages to even begin to believe that a Tango could do it safely. One of the reasons we can share safely is our ability to adjust body position in order to avoid mirrors, arms and flung litter (smokes, coffee cups, half eaten burgers, etc.). A rigid vehicle is unlikely to manage this effectively. Not to mention the whole splitting on a GoldWing factor that's already been discussed.

It's sort of cute in an ugly way, and I'm sure it would do well in crowded cities, but I give it a low survivability rating in Bay Area freeway traffic.

According to the published info, this little car performs. All the weight is very low, so it's not tippy despite its narrow stance.

Isn't the overheating nature of air cooled bikes the only reason we got the lane sharing ability in California? This thing will never be legally able to lane share...yet some goofball from the Bay area will try to do it and end up like a canned sardine when they find out how much dumb SUV drivers hate and mess with lanes sharers on the road.

The idea of a small car-ish thing is great for urban areas like San Francisco. I'm 100% for it. Allow them carpool privileges, subsidize their parking for a while--heck I'd be willing to share moto parking with them if it would ease traffic congestion a little and help reduce our gas consumption as a nation. You see these types of little cars all over Europe. There's no reason why we can't and shouldn't do it here.

The idea of that thing actually lanesharing? Hmmmm...I dunno. Probably should be limited to two-wheeled vehicles. We split knowing that there are serious consequences if we make a mistake. Lane sharing is a responsibility, not just a perk of the hobby. This Tango is a small cage--it doesn't allow its drivers stupidity with impunity like with a Hummer, but still... That said, I was following a gal on a scooter a couple of weeks ago. She was craaaaaawling between cars on the Embarcadero...both legs out, no idea I was behind her, despite my clutch and the little rev's I was giving the engine for a solid minute as she gave an Oscar-winning performance of Best Rolling Roadblock of The Year. Even the cars were getting a little annoyed I think. I finally decided that I had to be a little proactive and show her how it's done. Put this gal (or the average driver) in a Tango with a cell phone and a latte and give them all the freedoms of a motorcycle? Sounds like trouble to me.

bridge warrior / sharer

i'm a 'sharer' from american canyon (vallejo) to SF (St Marys medical center) 3-5 times a week to drop off my wife @ work (and pick her up too :) [ thats up to 20 bridges a week!!! all free baby!). its alot of fun, very technical, and really dangerous... 2up/lane share/bay and carquinez bridges/hooyah! its 40 min. each way any time of day. it cuts off 1.5hr on the commute by ferry and 2.5 driving. i do lane share very politely though sometimes i'm sure its splitting hairs...

i have a honda ST1300 and its only a credit cards width thinner than a honda GW and looks about the same width as that 'little death trap' lol, JK.. ok.

as for lane sharing a 4 wheel vehicle i have no issues with that... as long as they are as they polite, and move over for faster 'sharers'...

as for george clooney... 'the one who hates guns, but uses them in all his movies' .... ... .. . what a dope! :sniper

P.S. it would be nice if CALTRANS marked the diamond lane with the share lane just to remind cagers too 'schooch a tad' as well... any thoughts on that?

These people just need to stop being puss**s and ride a motorcycle!!

Can somebody please explain to that guy that it's lane SHARING and that sharing only counts when ALL your wheels are in one lane?!?!?!

It's bad enough that we have to educate moto riders to call it sharing, now we have to do it with this looney as well!!!

as i often point out in these threads, i lane share with my car quite frequently on el camino. sure, it's turning right... but it's still two cars (or often car + VTA bus) in one lane.
