Lasik or Alternative Vision Correction

I got Wavefront LASIK 3 years ago. I can't say enough good things about it. Painless procedure with almost immediate results. I walked in to the office blind as a bat and walked out at 20/15 in both eyes. They overcorrect to get it right when your done healing. Now I'm 31 years old and my vision has stabilized at 20/25. I love it. Do your research as I'm sure tecniques have advanced since I got it.

The recovery was minimal as well. I used medicated eye drops for about 2 weeks after the procedure with great results.

have they given you an explanation as to why your sight isn't so good at night?

I believe it is is because the cornia, cant spell, is moved back towards the eye from the procedure, so when your eyes are dialated, still cant spell, it causes the vision to have some glare due to the shape of the eye after the procedure.

I guess it is a glare, kinda like how lights look when you are on shrooms..:shhh

It really isn;t that bad just different than with glasses, and if i have to wear glasses while driving, what the hell, it is worth it for the other times you dont need them.

My wife and I both used Dr. Learner in San Ramon with excelent results. 1/2 of my wife's office has also used him and are quite happy. Not your average 'we zap 'em eye center' so he's not the cheapest guy to go to. Pioneer in the field.
Neither my wife or I have issues at night. The first two months I did but not any more. He also has offices in Concord & Pittsburg.
What I really love is when it's foggy or raining out and I can now flip up my screen for some fresh air without coating my glasses in condensation. Clear vision and a safer ride. Hot days are also great- I used to have to flip my screen up and adjust my glasses as they slipped down my nose from sweating at the track. Not safe, now that problem is gone.

Ask your Optomitrest for recomendations.
+1 except optometrist is spelled correctly :p

if it were me, i'd go for intacts.

http://www.bellevue-lasik.com/lasik-information/lasik-alternatives.html

there's no permanent changes and can be adj. if your vision gets worse or needs to be adjusted. esp. if you have astigmatism (i have it pretty bad too)

for now, whenever i ride, i use soft disposable contacts. i've learned from experience that if you crash, you could cut yourself w/ glasses (or sunglasses) if you hit your head w/ your lid on. worse if you have real glass lenses.

Another :thumbup for Dr. Kawesch. He did mine about a year ago. My prescription was a -9.00 :nerd pre-surgery and I see 20/15 now. I'm 39 and have been wearing glasses since I was 2 (contacts since I was 13).

Had mine done by Edward Manche @ Stanford. I think I did them in jan 01, so it's been a few years now, and I'm quite happy with the results.

Like you, I polled a lot of people, and found a surprising number of patients of Dr. Manche, and every single one I asked was satisfied; shit... more than satisfied. It was like they were Manche cheerleaders. Anyhow, I was convinced.

About the same time, my Dad had his done through some doctor at Kaiser. He is happy with the results as well. I think that on the whole, LASIK is a highly successful surgery (no matter who does it), and upwards of 90% of the people I've talked with were pleased with the results.

I am 40 and Ijust had "wave front" Lasik done. My vision is now 20/15 and I love it! I still instinctively grab for my now absent glasses when taking off my helmet. I had my surgery done by Dr. Scott Hyver. He has an office located in Daly City (Westlake District I think), and he and his staff are quite helpful.

Let me chime in here as well. I'm 42 and had my eyes done 6 months ago at LASIKPLUS in San Jose. Wow! Only thing I regret is not doing it 10 years sooner. I had been put off for years by my regular eye doc cause of my high degree of astigmatism, unfortunately this was simply self protection on his part cause the lasik folks told me that I was only the middle of what they can do now-a-days (up to +11 or some wild number).

Dr. Simon has done like a gazillion procedures and it was literally over in less than 10 minutes. I'm now 20/20 and don't miss those greasy damm glasses one bit!

Best of all, they offer an 18 month 0% interest payment plan.

Contact me for $100 off coupon if your going to LasikPlus

"Best of all, they offer an 18 month 0% interest payment plan."

read the fine print - You're charged a $ service/payment fee everytime it dinks your bank/credit card account x 18. So you're still paying some sort of interest.

20/15 vs 20/130 vision :thumbup

This is something I've wanted to get done as well, but I held off after reading about the negative side effects. Do yourself a BIG favor and visit the site below BEFORE you get it done.

With about a 3% chance for bad side effects (the site details these); this means that 100s of thousands of people have had their lives ruined by this procedure. You won’t find many people admitting that this procedure fucked them up as it is quite embarrassing to pay to have your vision screwed.

Check it out. Make sure you read the "Patient Stories".

Daniel,

I've also got some astigmatism and have contemplated LASIK.

For what it's worth, I am currently wearing gas permeables that are super comfortable (they're from BC, Canada), AND help correct my astigmatism. I've looked into LASIK, but am unsure whether I want to take that 3-4% chance something might go wrong. Some friends of mine say it's perfect, others mention the halo effect at nite or in proximity with water, still others have had to do the operation 2+ times, because of complications and side effects.

Actually, I hear from my neighbour now that they have technology available where kids these days with beginning myopia can wear special contacts that halt or reverse nearsightedness! I wish I had that option.

I heard from my wife that, there are hundreds of factors in the result of lasik. everyones eyes are different so the results are different.
great overall surgery

Well if you worry about risk, you probably should not be riding a motorcycle. :teeth

JK, i kinda like to see. I was concerned before i got mine done, i did wait like over 10 years to get it done to ensure the Tech was solid and tested.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting it when it was RK. Then they came out with PRK. Then it was LASIK. At that point, I figured I could wait the rest of my life for the next better thing or I could just get off my ass and do it.

i would love to get this done. me and my sister and considering it. i hate wearing glasses and contacts now.

I have to say that I am yet another person that received custom lasik from Dr. Kawesch. I had it done this last Saturday so it has only been like 6 days. For the first three days it has been kind of fuzzy, but I can still see objects way better then before (I was a -5.00 in both eyes) and when tested the day after the surgery I was 20/20 in the right eye and 20/30 in the left eye. I did my week checkup on Thursday and both eyes were at 20/30. The doctor advised that it would take at least 2 weeks for my eyes to stabiize (not sure if guys know how that works..just hoping it stabilzes at 20/20 for both eyes). Everything seems to be getting a lot less hazy, but I am worried that my eyes will stabilize at something worse then 20/20. How long did it take for you guys to clear up and settle???

Anyway still way better when the shield is partly up to get some air and it is not moving the contacts all over the eyeballs causing tears (hey I notice you were crying at 4 corners..jk..did the ride suck that bad?:) Those darn contacts!

I just had it done by Dr. Ellis not but 2 weeks ago @ Ellis Eye Center. He also was a pioneer and he has done over 40,000. I had a stigmatism in both eyes. I had no disconfert at all after the surgery. Vision keeps getting better. 20/20 in both eyes. He has offices in every corner of the bay area.

I opted NOT to get LASIK, why? because cornea doesn't grow back...EVER.

I did get Cornal Ring Implants. No corneal material was removed, and if my vision changes, I can have the rings replaced with new ones.

Pacific Laser Eye Center in Danville

Had it done last year at Pacific Laser Eye Center in Danville. I had -8.50 in both eyes and some astigmatism...I'm very pleased.

I chose Steven Gray Pascal, M.D. - primarily due to his bio (copied it for you below)

Steven Gray Pascal, M.D. has been performing laser vision correction for more than five years. He is the Chief of Ophthalmology at Summit Medical Center in Oakland, and he has been teaching eye surgery as a Clinical Instructor through California Pacific Medical Center for ten years. Dr. Pascal is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University where he was graduated with Distinction and with Honors. He attended Tufts University School of Medicine at the New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Good luck - regardless of where you have it done, it's worth it!
