LED helmet light kit - Feedback?

Seriously :wtf

Those things look as distracting as a pair of lights in your helmet.

edit: You could always use retro-reflective vinyl.

i'd think you'd see the light in your periphery and it would kill your ability to see in the dark

Good point. I'll look into sticking LEDs of an unusual color (e.g., green) to my mirrors. I'm less concerned about being visible from behind than about standing out in someone's mirrors when lane-sharing in a sea of headlights.

They only have lights inside of helmets on TV and in Movies (Battlestar Galactica anyone?) so you can see the characters face. In real life, it will diminish your night vision.

green light to the front is neither legal nor is it safe. Your bright ass headlight generally does a good job of helping you be seen at night, maybe put aux white lighting, or really bright LED amber running lights on your mirrors...

Unsafe, TBD. Illegal, indeed per CVC 25950:

"This section applies to the color of lamps and to any reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light of 0.05 candela or more per foot-candle of incident illumination. Unless provided otherwise, the color of lamps and reflectors upon a vehicle shall be as follows:

(a) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from in front of a vehicle, shall be white or yellow, except as follows:
(1) Rear side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show red to the front.
(2) The color of foglamps described in Section 24403 may be in the color spectrum from white to yellow."

Amber LEDs on mirrors it is, then...
