Here is GLF and I last year on Berryessa/Knoxville.

This was one of the more shallow ones.

I was on the RC, and my whole front wheel was submerged.

yeah, that was fun! and lost? we weren't lost! we were being adventure!

that is a very cool road,

watching water shoot out of my dry clutch as i revved the engine on the other side was a little disconcerting...but then I figured , "just go faster and the air will dry it out"

I've given up trying to figure out what comes from where in her English She also speaks perfect Spanish in a couple of dialects so I wonder what language she is thinking in constantly

Well, whoever decided to draw the goat path of a road we were on as if it was a major highway on the map should be buggered! ! It was in such bad repair and was filled with potholes (many of which were thankfully recently repaired) but despite that, the rougness of the passage was surprising to me!. In many places it was only one lane wide and it had about 6 water crossings over large cement slabs that had signs that said "Impassable During Rain"!

Those water crossings can mess you up if you go over them at any kind of speed when there is water going over it. Back in 2003 I took that road in the middle of summer. I did not know about these water crossings. Coming around a corner with just a little speed and I see this crossing with water going over it. I thought it looked like trouble but did not have much time to slow down and hoped that I could just blaze right through the water and create a nice parting of the water crossing with waves shotting out on both sides of my bike. Well just about as soon as I got into the water my bike immediately slammed to the ground and I ended up slidding about 10 feet in the water and stopped. I got up and about fell on my ass because the surface was so slippery with algae and water slim. At least it was a relatively soft landing.

That was not a fun day for me. Never been back to that road and if I did, I would take it very slow. If there was water going over those water crossings I would probably turn around and take some other road.

ModifiedAngel: Thanks for that information! Definitely something to keep in mind for the future! I wonder if the algae or whatever makes it slimy is more prevalent in the summer months, because even though there was about 2-3 inches of water flowing over every crossing (very little) I didn't feel a hint of slipperiness at all.

Jocelyn made me go thru the first one first, before she would go thru Even though she was leading out. She stopped and did the classic "Sullah" line from Raiders of the lost Ark;

"Hmmm... water... Is it deep?"

"I don't know, it doesn't look like it, this road just keeps getting better and better huh? (sarcasm)"

"pffft, whatever... It might be deep, you go first..."

Does that make her a coward? or very smart? Now just to let you know, if I ended up going down at the crossing, this message thread would have a decidedly different tone...

Cardinal: I would have definitely been in better shape had I been on a standard Since we were heading south toward Berryessa that made it mainly downhill and I think that made the sportbike position even worse, and even with more knee gripping on the tank forced a little more weight to be borne on the arms and back...

In the summer months with warmer temperatures and more sunlight, algae will thrive, growing thicker and more slippery.

With the freezing temps we've had lately, I don't imagine there's much algae growing.

Still, water crossings are quite treacherous and should be taken with utmost care.

I swear on high Miran, I'm looking forward to the first time you and my wife meet... She's gotten much better at taking BARF banter in stride and your comment about a lifeline just made her "smirk" and throw her arms up, and before you think it, that's arms up in exasperation not surrender!!!

I think for the first 10 minutes the two of you will just circle each other menacingly before saying hello.
