we have crews from all over the state, neighboring states, neighboring nations, hell even australia, coming to our aid. that’s rad. and that’s how we will respond when some other state needs help down the line. they can run their mouths but helpers gonna help and doers are gonna get stuff done.

it’s not an angry or sad “fuck them.” it’s more like they don’t even matter right now.

yeah, i get it. if that’s the foot they wanna put forward, my guess is they’ve already fucked themselves in more ways than one. sort of a ‘sucks to be me’ declaration. flies buzzing, begging for attention. pity is all i got. and only a very mild amount of that.

wrt the emergency responders - heroes. every one of them.

i’ve been watching some of the pilots dropping water and retardant. it’s impressive. so, too, are the crews hiking up steep ravines and hills with heavy packs and doing gnarly, intense labor all day.

i just saw an engine from medford, oregon, which is about an hour from my house, was sent to LA. it made me smile. this is going to continue to be devastating and awful but damn it, we’re gonna help get them through to the other side. i hope every firefighter makes it home safely.
 
we had a pinning ceremony tonight for a firefighter / paramedic promoted to engineer. the family is always at these events. his mother pinned his badge on him, and his father started crying. then we all did (plus wild clapping).

their level of dedication and commitment is second to none. have said they’re heroes, but that doesn’t even begin to describe them.

It's no surprise when you look at Youtube and Instagram whenever someone makes a post about a California disaster. It always attracts a lot of comments saying Cali deserves it for being a hotbed of "grooming" and "satanism". It's quite ironic that when you click on their profiles, they usually have a US flag emoji. They wouldn't know the first thing about what patriotism is.

Something occurred to me. I know fire crews are coming in to help with the local fires, I'm just wondering if SCE is able to borrow crews from PGE et al to come help restore electricity.

Do you get insurance intending to collect on it the same year?

Insurance is something you pay into for the long term in order to get the coverage you need sometime in the future.

That's why I talk about 10 years, insurance companies are supposed to be there, collecting money and putting much of it away to cover future demands, that's the unwritten contract, but modern insurance companies take the money and run when it looks like they'll actually have to pay out more than they collected that year. Look at what happened in Florida where they committed fraud to avoid paying out.

You say this as if there won't be more events like that each year to come. That's the trend.

When you claim that insurance companies are collecting more than they're paying out, a) that's what they are supposed to be doing and b) that isn't what they have been doing for long enough that they're pulling out of this market.
 
Can't really be soft on crime when it makes us happy and tough on crime when it makes us unhappy. I wanna kick his ass as much as the next person, but he looks like a classic mental health case, to be treated just as you would with some crazy addict hobo running around breaking windows. Emotion justice throughout history has some pretty ugly pitstops.

Oh, I know it's not entirely that guy's fault that he decided to torch homes. But I can still want him removed from normal society. His "punishment" should be different than a "normie", but ya.

Crime decreases when society is supported and happy, when people aren't fighting over scraps. Tough on crime doesn't work.
 
The only thing that might be safe'ish to start spraying around a residential neighborhood would be a shotgun with birdshot, but what's the effective range, fifty yards?
