...but are they legal?

I want to get a light bar for The Van.

They're sold to the public with either clear or amber lenses. What's allowed for civilian vehicles? FWIW, I want to fab some green lenses for mine...

And your planning to do what with your lightbar once its installed? :confused

Pull people over? Pretend your mall security?

Why?:wow

Light bars are used on some construction vehicles to call attention.

If you mount them just don't be surprised if you get a few unfriendly stops from LEO's who are curious as to what you are doing. Phony light bars have been used more than once by guys pretending to be cops who have done armed robberies and rapes of the people they pulled over.

Okay, so it's legal?

I use The Van for promotion and sign installation. Bike hauling, too. I have no intention of using the light bar to pull anyone over, pretend I'm a LEO, run traffic lights, etc. I'd never turn the lights on when The Van is moving. I think it would be a great attention getter. "Just look for the green & orange flashing lights."

Flashing Lights
25250. Flashing lights are prohibited on vehicles except as otherwise permitted. (There is a whole list in the CVC.)

The green lights would be illegal.25950 CVC

Using amber lights: Use of Flashing Amber Warning Light
25268. No person shall display a flashing amber warning light on a vehicle as permitted by this code except when an unusual traffic hazard exists.

Depending upon your employees, you may want to check out 25276 CVC.

Thanks, Ken.

This gets me close, but no cigar. :(

25260.3. Any vehicle having personnel aerial lift equipment,
actually engaged in the construction, removal, maintenance or
inspection of any building, structure, or appurtenances thereto,
including the cutting or trimming of trees immediately adjacent
thereto, may display flashing amber warning lights to the front,
sides, or rear when necessarily parked on a highway or when moving at
a speed slower than the normal flow of the traffic.

You might get away with doing it for sign installation.

As a free ad for your business it would probably piss off far more people than attract. If I saw a van rolling down the freeway with light bar flashing I would go out of my way to never do business with them.

Thanks for the :2cents ... But, in a parking lot, at the races... it would be pretty cool, wouldn't it?

Could you just fabricate it so that its a flip up light bar so when youre driving down the road no one sees it ?? Then once you hit your final destination its party time !! :dunno

Honestly... no. :twofinger :laughing

Besides- at the races could distract riders (let's say you are on a hill near the course) and some catches a glimpse of a flashing light that universally means "WARNING"- you may hinder/interfere w/ their racing.

Want something cool? Get one of those blow wavey arm guys.:laughing

I've always wanted a police light bar, too. Only I'd install it in my bedroom for those special occasions for the lady in my life...then the light show would be awesome!

next your gonna want to install wig wags so you can look like Walker Texas Ranger:twofinger I keed I keed:rofl
