Stumbled upon this on Reddit and thought it seemed interesting: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1965630601/lightmode-electroluminescent-motorcycle-helmets

Here is the link to the Reddit post: http://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles...ts_when_my_friend_made_an_illuminated/cjkmxg5

And a DIY version: http://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/2e8pvw/diy_lightmode_helmet_for_under_30/

May try this out on a cheapo helmet and see how it goes. The only thing I'm concerned about is where the battery packs would go

Novel idea. I've seen these homebrew creations in action. EL tape lacks the luminosity that your run of the mill bicyclist strobe or even retroreflective can provide.

Its awesome for posing tho.

yeah I saw the photo of the battery pack but if it's only being secured by tape I don't imagine it holding on for too long

Pretty rad looking, wouldn't mind trying something like this on the next helmet I pick up.

I like the idea . The battery is pretty big though, where does it go?

Night riding accounts for probably 5% of my miles so wouldn't be much use to me.

I bet there will be a few early adopters at the SF/OAK monthly night rides though!

You could do the same with some reflective tape and no battery pack.

I just tape a handful of glow sticks to the back of my helmet for that fashionable neon faux dreadlock look.
Chicks dig the neon dreads.

"Superior" visibility? No.

A pale blue glow ain't gonna make it. Besides, blue is a terrible choice for night visibility, especially at such a low intensity. Red, Yellow or Orange would be a better choice. ROY G BIV

I'm going to stick to 3M reflective tape.

I have a friend who did that to his helmet, and it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Big starwars freak (big guy + starwars fan = big starwars fan) so he made it look like darth mall or some such character. He's a bit of a hack, so it may just be his craftsmanship, but in daylight it's hideous because you can see all the glue or whatever adhesive he used, and at night it's just stupid and distracting so I always ride in front of him. He used some super strong velcro with even superer strongerer adhesive on it to secure the battery pack to the back of the helmet.

again, its ugly. Don't waste your time/money.

Surprised this hasn't shown up yet

This would be cool if it weren't for all the holes drilled into the shell. It would be really cool if he used multi0-colored LEDs so it would burn red and flashed or swept side to side when you hit the brakes or turn signals.
