Literal hit and run

No one said you have to apprehend the guy, just follow them and direct the cops to them.

They did do that.

Just not the dude filming who pans away from the guy leaving the scene. Did he not realize what was happening or is he just a moron?

Yeah, a couple people eventually took off down the street, but I suspect they may have been the undercover cops that were mentioned in the article, due to the delay between when the dude ran and when others finally ran after him.

I just think it's a sad statement about our society that people would rather record it happening that step in and help out.

Sometimes doing the right thing can be dangerous, but it's still the right thing.

The Koi-

Remember my thread, about 4 years ago, where I witnessed a hit and run?

Short version- I followed the guy, with my car, who hit this (hawt) lady and fled. He finally pulled over 4 blocks later and was threatening me. I called the cops and then the lady showed up a few minutes later. I gave her and the LEO's my info.

Later, she called me to ask; "Jose said you were threatening to hurt him- is that true"??????

I put my neck out to help her, and now she's got a new BFF!!!!!!

Yes, she was HOT!!!!!

Only been on BARF a year so nope I'm still a noob and don't remember your thread, I would have no problem following a drunk to report it, or a hit and run driver, as long as I was safe in doing so. I would not run after someone down the street, especially in SF or any big city however. Too easy to make the turn and be confronted with something I'm not ready to get into...

So many things I could say but, in lieu of starting a friday shit storm I'll just say,"Res Ipsa Loquitor."

Spell check time: "Res Ipsa Loquitur" :nerd

Valencia is the best place to pull shit like this, everyone that witnesses it is going to be checking in on foursquare, tweeting it, or updating their facebook.

I hate people.

I happened to be walking past the Mission Police station when this happened. Suddenly, every cop siren in the area went off as blue and white and undercovers converged on the area, and meanwhile a stream of uniformed cops poured out of the police station and ran past me to get to the scene.

The fact that they got the guy within a couple of blocks should renew your faith in humanity...because some people at least were using their phones to make the right call, rather than just make a video. :thumbup

Me watching the video LOL!

Ok wow!
Shit he's getting out the other side...
Ok he's got his backpack....
And gone. Oh shit he's running!
Prank is what I am immediately thinking but wow this is real..
Hit and run is no joke!
Hope they throw the book at him.

Facts have nothing to do with this.....

Rel, as a LEO.. Say said ass bandit was attempting to flee the scene of a hit and run. Would a "bystander" be covered under something similar to say, the "good Samaritan" laws. Perhaps if the guy tripped and fell via clothes line? :laughing

I seem to recall the wording is something like: "A citizen is permitted to use as much force as necessary to overcome resistance when making an arrest". Basically, tackling or tripping and then forcefully holding down would be just fine, and more if necessay based on the actions of the suspect.

Good samaritan law doesn't cover making a private persons arrest.
