Making GPR50 race ready

All,

I'd like to start getting my Derbi race ready.

Aside from getting a more experienced rider with real skills :laughing , I'm looking for any tips on what changes I can make in order to get more speed out of the bike.

The battery is all but dead at the moment, and I intend to pull that out. Can anyone tell me if this will break the circuit and prevent the bike from starting altogeher? Tomorrow, I'll just disconnect the battery and give it a try, but if anyone knows the quick answer, I'd appreciate it.

As I've been wrenching, I've been looking for junk that I can take off. This is what I've come up with so far:

- The spaghetti bowl of wiring behind the cowel and throughout the bike

- The headlights and their housing

- The rear tire fender

At some point, I'll yank the oil injector and just feed it pre-mix.

Don't need the battery. You can pull the starter motor too! Together they weigh a ton! Then you'll have to bump start it, but what the heck, it's a race bike!

at some point you will probably want to put some heavier weight oil in the front forks and possibly a rear shock. Then you can rail the corners real well. Body work is an easy way to loose weight. All the guys I run with have removed just about everything. Another is the gas tank. If you have the ability remove the stock tank setup and make a support for the seat. Then run a Derbi Senda gas tank and save alot of weight. After that is it all motor.

Lose the oil injector and go premix. A cheaper way to go than getting a Senda fuel tank (which I heard TCR doesn't have at the moment) is using the oil injector reservoir. I can't remember who runs the Derbi that way at SMRRC. The best part is you have easy access to the top of your motor rather than having to remove the tank to work on it.

The only caveat is you'll need to top off your fuel between races/ track sessions and it probably wouldn't be a good endurance bike.
 
Well i happen to have one available :D i have also seen people run a lawnmower gas tank that mounts right under the fake tank and doesn't hang down into the engine bay.
 
I think Patrick's Derbi used the oil injector tank for fuel (if it's the bike from Oregon that he bought).
