So I have been searching for a new bike using CL, Moto Hunt and Cycle Trader
Anyways I found a bike that I am considering and on the dealers own website there is a great price listed so I reach out using that dealers online form asking for an OTD price. Also on this form it asks how you would like to be contacted by checking the appropriate boxes - I checked email or text

I get a phone call instead - ok so I ask the sales person for a written OTD which he does email me
MSRP - $25049
Freight - $895
Assembly/Testing - $1299
DMV/Paperwork - $566
Sales Tax (10% for your address) - $2732.80
Total - $30541.80

The website lists the bike nearly 4k less than the MSRP - WTF

What the heck kind of bike? I chose a dealer based on their response to my inquiry. I reached out to several dealers, only one was willing to send an OTD price with an apology for the freight charge and an explanation of the assembly.

hate the bait and switch, they should be forced to honor their quoted price; otherwise it's just false advertising to get you in the door

I stopped by Eagles Nest HD last weekend and their pricing was just nuts with ADM which is why I reached out to this particular dealer

CA licensed auto/ moto/ RV / boat dealers must legally give/ quote you the lowest advertised price for the vehicle, absent taxes, registration fees, tire fees, smog/emission, etc. Is there an expiration date on the online advertised price? Is there a stock number on It?

Looks like you may be quoting a FXLRST?

These guys seriously bumped their heads:

Assembly/Testing - $1299 to unbox the bike, remove the plastic wrap, tie downs, install the mirrors, connect the battery, inflate the tires, add gas, connect it to the scanner and maybe ride around the parking lot. That's some great hourly rate. Sign me up.

DMV/Paperwork - $566 really? Not according to the CA DMV fee schedule

M/C dealers are not helping themselves.

A Harley-focused place that treated me very well was LifeStyle Cycles in Anaheim. Negotiation was a combo of email, text & phone, then some help to setup shipping. They answered all my questions directly and politely.

Edit: this place also has a seamstress on staff. Kind of a "cat's meow" for motorcycle shops, no?

What was their response when you asked about the $4k off msrp?

I am looking now for a new bike. Totaled by S1000XR. I saw my closest dealer had one. Called for an out the door price. Said they would call back. Hour later I was told it was sold with a deposit. It is still on the website for sale. I will look more when I get back to California.

Let me know if you see a BMW S1000XR Low Suspension for sale.

Itsa good thing motorcycles are selling so well and all the dealers have lines out the door with people clutching cash to throw at them.
Thats the only impression I can draw from someone selling something while being so aloof.

It works the other way; volume allows for lower profit/ unit. Lack of volume demands holding pricing on each higher....until the carry costs force dumping.

They are trying to play you for a sucker. They figure if you're rich or stupid or in a hurry maybe you'll take the bait on the high fees and jacked up price.
If you do, they win.

Base model $18,825 MSRP
You will not find many base models, most are well equipped and run $21,000 +/- . Add BMW bags and they go over $23K

The bike above might be a good deal depending on how equipped. I do need the low suspension for my getting shorter 75 year old legs.

The sales person said there is a disclaimer in the “fine print” which after looking at it again there is

I think that their website is disingenuous to entice more interest

Not to mention I'm pretty sure that blue on windshield/screen is illegal.
