melted headlight lens

I recently took my 2017 street triple 675 r to a track day. Unfortunately i taped the lights. It was about 105*F ambient temperature, with the addition to the tape over the lens, the heat from the bulb caused the plastic lens to melt. I did not account for how hot the bulb would get while taped.

I looked for parts online and a headlight assembly is about $640/piece.

does anyone know if i can just get a lens and not the entire housing? or how i could find the part number:

The diagram i found does not have a separate plastic lens, does anyone think this is possible?

If not possible does anyone have suggestions on where to find headlight assemblies which are affordable?

it was assembled, so it can be disassembled.... back when HID retrofits were all the rage some headlight units had to be heated up to get the adhesive holding the clear part in place to relax. typically done in an oven (by guys that aren't married or live with their parents i assume)

i doubt very much that the clear part is available anywhere separately even if you do figure out how to get it separated... but that is really weird how it's shown in the parts diagram if it's not a separate item

And that happened with the stock bulbs??

After you get it repaired, unplug the lights before you go racing.

Instead of the energy of the beam passing harmlessly through the lens the tape
focused it onto the lens... also be careful unplugging lights because your
charging system may not handle the freed up amps and the extra energy going
into the battery could cause it to over heat and begin to out gas...

This statement is correct. The over heating is not going to happen. That's what voltage regulators are for.

Although it been a Triumph and we heard the joke about the Lucas fridges, who knows if the electrical system has been designed properly ...

I have no advise other than ebay. Interesting, I used to do a lot of trackdays and never had a headlight lens get hot and melt with tape over them. I too am curious if it was aftermarket bulbs or if its possible to do with oem wattage. Honestly never would have crossed my mind.

It appears the front doesn't do any light-focusing like flutes on earlier lights. Take beamshot against garage door and let's see if beam has been deformed.
