Anyone here playing around with Meshtastic? I saw a brief video from Wired about this messaging technology, and I'm curious.

I've just started playing around with it. It's pretty neat and has some useful applications. I'm actually thinking about putting together a solar roof node to expand the mesh! I'm interested to find out how well it works for back country communication.

Tech coming out that is not expected is pretty cool to find.

I'm working on educating myself. It turns out that some of the more elaborate devices, like this (~$100), can also provide GPS and mapping as well as communication. It also looks to me as though some could work like an iPod, storing and playing music. It's an interesting rabbit hole. Fortunately, there's a website. :teeth

i've been dragging my feet on this myself...finally ordered a couple things to poke around at. might be a little out of range over here though.

This is the same tech from the 80's that ham radio operators have been using ever since - APRS

All it needed was to be commercialized and given a name like Lilypad...

Isn't that just devices that connect via LoRa not sure if its the same things as APRS but you could make your own nodes and try to spread it out that way.
