This sounds pretty sweet to me. Hot coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Language classes, mobile medical and job placement. All free. I guess I don't quite understand how this works and why the "public servants" are bending over backwards to make it happen.http://www.mv-voice.com/news/show_story.php?id=3639 Oh yeah, isn't this somehow illegal?:wtf

You are free to go look for work there too if you want.

Ah. Gotcha.

If this city wants to allow it, and it's funded through donations, good for them. :thumbup

However, like most things in CA, it just seems like we are flaunting our ability to ignore federal law. Not that I am saying all laws should be followed. :laughing

Ummm...no. But if they had something like this somewhere on Baja's East Cape for Americans, I might consider an extended fishing vacation.:laughing

Well, now that they have a permanent address I hope that it will be easier for ICE to find illegals. :thumbup

I think practical stuff like this is good, and really doesn't encourage further illegal immigration (free coffee/meals probably not a huge factor in one's decision whether or not to come here).

Legally speaking, nothing wrong with providing some basic services to people who "may or may not" be illegals.

Nothing like encouraging tax free, under the table employment. I'm sorry, but I'd be willing to bet that at some point, public funds are being used for this. And the very nature of day labor pretty much means that there will be no taxrs paid by either the employer or the employee.

1) not all 'day labor' is illegal
2) if you hire one of these 'contractors', it is not your responsibility to know if they pay their taxes or not. Also, if they show you a valid California ID, then you are fine too (can't help if California gives these to illegals though).
3) IF it runs off of donations, what is the harm? (say as opposed to welfare where they stand in line to receive shit for doing NOTHING).

To me, this kind of just sounds like a typical Union Hall :)

It's not just the free coffee and meals, it's the fact that it is being encouraged/supported by the local government. Who by the way ignored the outcries of local residents, ignored the fact that the property was zoned residential, and will not be collecting any property taxes since it has been deemed exempt.
I would love to read some of the letters being sent "back home". The fact that Univision was there to help broadcast it probably won't discourage immigration either. Here was the entertainment provided by some of the supporters.:party

I agree if it truly is funded by contributions and volunteer work. I'd rather a designated place where people can go than the street. I just don't want to encourage illegal employment through public funds.

Welcome to California, where the only people who want the illegals here are the illegals (and their Anchor Children) and the Business Special interests who benefit from a marginalized slave caste in California. Fortunately since the Business Special interests run government here, they get what they want.

Jesus I never thought of it that way. Wow.
