I've actually read that, and both the Twist of the wrist books by Code and another very good book called Street Strategies.

I was using the term "knee dragging lean angle" more as it applied to me and is consistent to me, rather than other riders techniques... On this particular turn I have both cheeks off the seat and hook with my outside leg, with centripetal (centrifugal?) force pressing the bottom of my thigh onto the seat. My outside armpit is directly over the gascap, steering with the inside arm, the oustide arm limp and almost dangling. Pressure on the inside peg and leading with the inside shoulder and looking as far around the turn as I can.

My street riding foolhardiness/spiritedness aside. I'm simply trying to solve a riddle... The reasons that you give don't explain why the Pilot Powers I had before did not suffer this particular handling anomaly in the slightest, when brand new or when worn...

Same warmup time, same on ramp, same speed, same temperatures in a comparative average over time, same suspension settings, same rider, same technique, same line thru corner.

If it were a minor handling difference there would be no mystery or desire to solve it, but the handling difference is significant.

Right now from what I've gotten from your posts and others are:

Difference in how quickly tires warm up
Tire profile (my original post)

If anomalies in the road or greasiness of the road were the answer, I would have felt that same thing at least ocassionally on the Pilot powers, and I didn't... The only time I even looked closely enough at the road surface to notice the uneven seams is because the bike was acting different with the new tires and I was ruling out as many variables as I could.

When I noted the road seams, that's what prompted me to look at the tire profiles in comparison more closely...

Believe me, I wouldn't even care and wouldn't bother anyone on the forum if it was a slight difference, but this was a stand up on the pegs and get off the seat mid corner kind of difference...

Oh, and not carbon fiber wheels... Marchesini magnesium... But I do thank you for your responses... Though there are digs in there against me, you offer possible ideas of what it might be :) I didn't miss that part...

Stefan

Michelin Race compound takes longer to warm up than the regular street PP compound. Ask any track rider and they will tell you Michelin Race tires are notorious for being cold blooded or whatever. People have said that the 2CT's are PP middles with a power race compound on the edges. This would explain why you get this feeling when leaned way over.....with both cheeks off the seat :wtf :wtf........ when the tires are still cold.

I suggest you pick that book back up and read it again. Regardless, hitting freeway onramps with cold tires leaned over all the way and getting the tires to wash out is not very safe.

BTW I am only "digging" at you because I already know what a good sport you are :teeth, I'm guilty of putting it on way too thick in traditional Barf tradition. But besides all the B.S. you really sound like a tool talking about your expert body positiion on your superbike taking freeway onramps on cold tires. What is your obsession with riding like this on the street, on the freeway and streets of all places :wtf?

lol..I meant to say "Prepare yourself to buy MORE tires in a year"(for the 2ct's)..:teeth ..I think my PP's lasted 2800 total miles of street and track riding( of course, the first track day does not count cuz i was in a novice school in Reno/Fernley).That pic is Fernley by the way..here is T-hill(much faster track)You will luv it Larry!!

for some reason reno looks like more turns.. I will like any track.. gives me the chance to really ride. without a deer jumping 10 feet from me just like 9 today.. I was more afteid of the car comming the opposit path.. thought he was gonna swearve to my lane to avoid the deer. this was comming up back side of 9 to 4 corners. the last left turn.. :wow

I would never acknowledge my body position as "expert", never... Note I simply said "this is what I do" with a description following... If I could paint a work of art that looked exactly like the Mona Lisa, I wouldn't say I was a great artist, only that I emulated what I saw great artists do, because they were, ummm. great :) And as far as the "superbike", well, if you had money to spend on your bike, what you refuse?

As far as an obsession with certain aspects of how I ride, well, Some people like to collect bugs :) Besides, if I get killed, I might get a few digital roses from BARF, and no one would have to suffer my verbosity ever more! :laughing Maybe on my tombstone it would say "Epitaph would not fit in space provided" :teeth

I'm just messing wtih you man, its not that serious, but really, be easy on those kneedraggin on ramps lol

Nice thread.. I've run PP & liked em for the street but for last 2 years I've just been using old track tires on the street. Does any one know which tire wears better ? Since my street riding is 1/2 way sane I'd trade a little more tire life for some grip.
Thanks

Heya Stefan,

I hate to say it, but you changed two variables when you changed from Pilot Powers to the 2CT. You also changed the wheels!

Put old tires on new rims and see what happens.

This is why science is so damned expensive: have to test every variable.

stefan you seem like a bright guy. you probably knew it was a heat issue in the back of your mind.

i drag shoulder too. i have the hole in my leathers to prove it

I drag face. Wanna see my visor?

Anyhoo...

I had the PP's on my S2R until they wore out. I rode the bike to Skaggs w/ Allergic2Death. On Skaggs, the PP's, wuite well-heated, made a noise all the time like they wren't happy with the traction situation. Even Allergic2Death could hear my tires screamING! Not especially confidence-inspiring.

I recently switched to 2CT's, and made it back to Skaggs a month ago. The bike felt totally planted, and NO NOISE from the wheels whatsoever.

For my money, there's no going back to PP's. :x

Have you tried duct-taping a knee slider to your shoulder? :x

Make sure you tape it good and well, can never tell how many laps its gonna stay stuck....

Going in for a new front tire next week. Used to run PP 2CT sets...last time I got the PP rear because it was 108 bucks and I think I'll try the PP front for 84. God bless the new Michelin tire prices.

Oddly my last ride around Bear Creek I got almost the opposite feeling Feanor got three years ago...I kept feeling like the rear tire was flat, like it was sliding around or deforming on the way up. I was probably going faster than normal with new suspension bits installed so it's hard to say, I hadn't noticed anything much in the months before.

Never got on the side of the front tire anyway, so the soft compound is moot.

You guys gotta make sure you warm the tires first by weaving back and forth. :p

This is a joke!
