Do any of you guys know if i could ride a 3.5 hp mini bike to around town. Possibly in the bike lane or sidewalk. My brother used to ride his Go-Ped around town and was wondering if there were any strict laws against it.

the police will impound the bike you dont get it back at least in Sacramento we have special ordinances now to deal with minibikers.
this is part of the legacy of the pocket bike when kids started getting killed they came down on everyone! does that sound familiar? I ride mine down the street tpo visit my neighbors once in a while some of my neighbors are cops they think its funny they just think im nuts hairy biker looking guy on a tiny little taco minibike.

I run my monkey and other honda50s on the streets, all of them plated and insured.

Good luck getting yours registered with out a vin or passing a inspection with the CHP with out the proper DOT, tires, lighting etc.

as for running them illegally i see it all the time, and some city's seemed pretty relaxed about it. I can hardly get a LEO to blink at me in SF but when i was in the So bay i couldn't ride past one with out them stopping me just for a paper check.

thats sweeeeet!

Back in the 70s when we all tore around the streets of Long Island on minibikes and 50s, if the cops caught you they would often chain the bike to the back of their car and drag it and then let you walk the remnants home.

Unless it meets all DOT and California state vehicle requirements, it's illegal. That means all lights, fenders, smog, etc., etc. Many cities simply confiscate the thing if they find it being ridden on the street. And they're definately illegal on the sidewalk.

If you really want to have fun with them, buy a few, like 6 or so, get some small orange cones, and go with your friends to a parking lot and set up a temporary race track.

well what we did we took the plates off a someones bike and zip tied it to my small 50 sportbike. only got to the main street got pulled over. the cop was laughing and ask me where I got the plate. I said I found it in my garage and he ran the number and said it belong to so and so and did I know him. this cop was dumb. I said yea that's me old neighbor. he told me to take it off and go home and never come out again. this was about 2 years ago when I was 15

bout 10yrs ago, i used to get the popo to come to my residential area back in Fremont quite frequently for little dirtbikes, scooters, go-peds, go-karts... u kno, all those toys that are great fun for kids but completely illegal on the street. one time they even talked to my dad. boy did i get in trouble for that one.

also quite funny watching one my dad's buddies get pulled over in a 1/4th scale go-kart painted like Jeff Gordon's Dupont racecar. atleast he wasnt speeding.

CBRIZZLE is plain and simple a troll. In another post he was soliciting members about how he works at golden gate cycle and can get them a deal.

Haha.

We know, we know :rolleyes

I'm gonna try and find a lot to take my first ride on my Blata tomorrow :teeth

just out of high school i rode one to and from work(antioch to pittsburg) which was around 5 miles or so. i would take the cuts until los medanos college where i would have to expose myself and down passed wal mart on loveridge. everyday no lie. i'm sure the other 200 employees used to talk trash about me pulling up with a 3.5 hp briggs and stratton. i even stripped it and painted the frame in their paintbooth. only been through 2 motors in the 20 years i've owned it. good times.

They start out looking like this. To get it to look like Brad's will cost more than a new Ninja 250 :wow
