MLB is doing something pretty cool this weekend. I honestly don't know if they've done it before.

They call it Rivalry Weekend. What they've done is paired up teams that are close together, all at once.

White Sox @ Cubs
Guardians @ Reds
Pirates @ Phillies
Mets @ Yankees
Nationals @ Orioles
Tigers @ Blue Jays
Braves @ Red Sox
Rays @ Marlins
Cardinals @ Royals
Astros @ Rangers
Twins @ Brewers
Rockies @ Diamondbacks
Mariners @ Padres
Angels @ Dodgers
Athletics @ Giants

There are some outliers (Braves/Red Sox, Mariners/Padres), but it's a pretty fun schedule this weekend.

I was at the SF Game. Not sure if it is a rivalry anymore, but it was a nice try.

Story was that this is the "Inaugural Rivalry Weekend", so they may bring it back next year.

But, yea, Angels and Dodgers aren't so much rivals (even if the Dodger fans are extra annoying when they come to Angels Stadium).

Now, Yankees/Red Sox -- that's blood in the water.

But, still a fun idea I think.

every time I try to watch a MLB game it says subscription required. Baseball is dead to me.

No Hulu??

Guess that is a subscription :laughing

I'm on board Tux. It would be nice if they had at least a weekly game unhindered by gates and blackouts (ala Monday Night Baseball).

ESPN (subscription) has Sunday Night Baseball, but that's going away. MLB and ESPN did not renew contracts because MLB barely gets any content on ESPN. It's mostly NFL and NBA.

Getting my local Angel games is the primary reason I still have DirecTV. I haven't looked hard, but I have not found an alternative where I can do what I do now, which is record the games, then watch them on delay, so I can skip the commercials (which, arguably, are minimal, 1.5m per inning switch, a touch longer at 7th inning stretch).

Apple TV+ has two games a week, the put on a pretty good show, with good announcers, and, boy, is it gorgeous.

But, still, a subscription.

My favorite gripe is MLB Network (vs MLB TV - THAT'S not confusing). MLB Network is their cable station, and they typically run 2 "regional" games a day. What's annoying is that if they're running, say, Dodgers at Mets, the game is blocked because I'm in the Dodgers market. Even though the game is in New York. >.<

MLB looks to be going to an all streaming format in the next few years.

they lost me last time there was a strike. i'll tune in for a world series if the teams are interesting, and every once in a while i want to take a nap on a sunday but can't fall asleep and wish i had a game to put on in the background

scaramento has been trying to be part of the Bay Area for decades. rivalry still counts IMO... now when the As finally bugger off to Lost Wages i concur, 404 rivalry not found.

Borrowing YouTubeTV from my kid. It has local Comcast NBC Sports, Warriors & Giants. Not sure I'd pay for professional sports anymore.

Too many fingers in my wallet. Even with cable, recording a Giant game was problematic when games are spread over multiple streaming service. It's not just F The Dodgers, F The Streaming, too.

And they still aren't, just like San Jose.

yea that was amazing. I love the look on the pitchers face on third hit.

It was kind of the Astros to not walk him later in the game.

I'm giving up Sunday Giants games, shown wherever.

I finally got a dose of MLB Sunday, Giants home game, all about the Mets.
We even got a drone shot of the ball park totally empty. Like they were bragging about the shot of nothingness.
If MLB starts presenting their own corporate flavor over what was "home field", after "fixing" extra innings, and pitch clock, and giving us Robo Stats, dry data dump. Losing excitement of PLAYING the game.
Shortening the game from a sunny afternoon to less than 3 hours, now. More shaving time savings next year.
I may look to pro. Cricket !

You honestly almost do better with a solid radio team.

If you have Sirius XM, they broadcast all of the games.

Folks who actually are obliged to describe the game (Yankees team is pretty good, ESPN isn't bad either). A lot of the TV broadcasts are talking about almost everything but the actual game being played.

Angels TV team is pretty good, though. They just sometimes go off the rails. And Wayne Randazzo, who's really a fine sportscaster, he likes to rag on the Angels when we suck (which is often). Where Gubicza will go "Here's a great chance for Bob to take a low pitch and do some damage and get the Angels back in the game" Wayne is more "Here's Bob, 0-14 all series long along with a string of miscues leaving the Angels at 5-2...". "Yea, Wayne, we know we suck, just brighten it up a bit, k?" Wayne is getting better, though.

Nick Kurtz might have just had the best one game offensive performance ever in MLB.

four in a row against the 'Stros is pretty awesome for a year that hasn't gone very well four our A's.

I'm mostly radio for Giants games but have a TV with an antenna on my porch and there are about 15 games broadcast all season which if fine for me. I'm too cheap and lazy to chase streamed games or pay for cable. Works great for Niners too. If you have a TV that has a tuner you can buy a cheap antenna as a test and go from there. If you are almost anywhere in the Bay Area or surrounding areas not blocked by hills you should get a lot of stations and they are digital and hi-def.

NB: Mets games on Friday and Saturday were on OTA (over the air) TV which, unfortunately they lost.

Stupid Giants. 0-23 with runners in scoring position.
🤦‍♂️

I try to keep a line into the Bay Area, I have only one.
My only view, DTV from Az. No OTA, local radio, don't know about Sirius.
MLB is chopping away at it. There are games I watch without sound, strange talking heads?
