If you were to make a trip like this, how much time do you think it would take to be worth doing? Looks like ~11hrs from Reno, so...4 day weekend? Two days travel and two days ride?

I wanna go! Finally got the xrr basically done for the upcoming Barfbajahaha. If it survives the trip I'll be looking for the next adventure!

Oh and how can you be jones-ing for moab when you can ride out of your back door to heaven? I'm seriously jealous!! :thumbup

Minimum three days there to just scratch the surface. I saw on ADVrider somebody spent a whole week there; I read their ride report and I know they didn't hit everything, just the highlights. WoodsChick said you need a week, IIRC.

Problem is, I'm old, fat, and broken down, and I don't know how much I could take. Four to six hours a day, but after a couple days I'd be dragging ass.

1962siia88 I rode some cool shit out of my front door today (video rendering), but it's not slickrock. Nice views, but it's not Utah. I got a fever... for Moab.

I already have plans to be in St. George April 12. I could just take my bike and keep on going.

that's the spirit.

i was there once.... but MTB'ing lol. fun trip.

I went a couple years ago with the SBR group.
Drove out saturday & sunday.
Rode monday - friday.
Drove home saturday & sunday.
We covered a lot of different stuff, but not all.
Most fun I've ever had in the dirt.
Want to go back.

I had to scratch a trip out there back in 2012 because one of my friends going out passed away.. Been wanting to get there on a bike since I spent two weeks in Utah in 2013 in my FJ Cruiser.

BARFMoab?? I'm in!

What would be a better machine, a dual sport or a dirtbike?

Thats a crazy looking picture Buellistic.

I had a bunch of fun on a non plated KDX, but a plate opens up loops like the White Rim trail. We stayed at Archview campground and could ride from there to trails like Sovereign, Golden Spike, Ang to the Monitor/Merrimac buttes. Slickrock, Steel Bender, Poison Spider, Metal Masher were all Trucked to, plated bikes included.

Bucket list.

back in the day I used to go mtn biking in Moab fairly regularly. A long weekend used to be totally worth it. If you have two drivers you could leave after work Friday and be riding Saturday AM. Now with the price of gas I'd want to spend at least 4-5 days there.

I've never ridden any trails there on a m/c but I'd say dirt bikes are the way to go, as noted above maybe a plated dirt bike but there's a lot you'd miss on a dual sport.

Oh, and it gets cold there in the fall. I think we were there towards the end of October one year (or maybe it was Columbus Day, somehow that was a good time to go) and when we woke up our water bottles had ice, there was frost on the inside of our tent and it was like 27 degrees or something.

:ride

I am going to be in southern Utah the weekend of April 9-10 and I'm thinking of bringing my bike and heading over to Moab for a few days or the week.

Oh man oh man! I love Moab! I've done a handful of MTB trips there, and I've been jonesing, aching, longing to get there with my dirty bike! There are spots where you can camp for free up in the mountains, but it's about a 20 min drive back to town.

As for how much time to spend, I'd say at least a week if you can swing it. I even have my Moab t-shirt on today!

must do soon before it is closed to motos...
