A funky red & white Italian named Gianni Cervo! Versys - two of 'em! And a Ducati for laughs.

Back when the crust had barely cooled, I worked for some time in a garage where we did quite a bit of automotive repair. One of the things I remember about sourcing parts is that the junkyards all had a cross-reference guide that would tell you which parts from a given make, model, and year of automobile would fit which other make, model, and year of car. I remember using it for sourcing things like brake drums and rotors. Is there any similar cross-reference for motorcycle parts that any of you are aware of? If so, how would I get access to one (e.g., online)?

Not quite the answer to your question, but partzilla allows you to see all the models a particular part number applies to by searching the part number. But it doesn't usually work across brands.
I've used the partzilla info when searching for used parts on Ebay. Listings on Ebay often only list a year and model when selling a part.

That might just work for my use case. I'd like to find some four pot calipers to replace the two pots that came standard on my 09 Versys. I'd even do the six pots that Kawasaki had a thing for back around 2000, just as long as they're axially mounted. I'm hoping to source some used ones that I can rebuild.

Do you know if RevZilla posts the dimensions of the parts? It's not like these were ever offered on the Versys.

I would try and find a versys forum and then search the subject of upgrades, or brake calipers

Here's one idea

Useless.

The forums that I've been on have been all about the "farkles", and hostile to actual performance improvements. When the subject comes up the responses are typically along the lines of "I can lock the front wheel, thus the brakes are perfect!!!111", or "You should have bought a different bike if you want it to perform better", after which they revert to arguing over windscreens and oil brands.

My experience with Ducati, Aprilia, and Moto Guzzi forums has been far better in this regard, and maybe KTM is too, but in my experience the Versys, and for that matter the KLR forums have been worse than useless.

That thread is interesting, and maybe the front solution would work. The rear is fine as it is. That's definitely a cut above what I've seen on the Versys forums I've been on.

Now that we've got that out of the way do you know of a cross reference?

These look like what you need if you want to go fixed 4 piston:
Made to use the Tokico 108mm radials that almost every GSXR used from 2004-2010ish, also used on plenty of Kawi and Honda sport bikes.
You should be able to get used calipers for less than $100 on eBay or CL. I gave away mine when I swapped to R6 Sumitomos on my track GSXR. Just avoid the ones that use 4 pads per caliper.
There might even be someone here on BARF that can hook you up.

Thanks for a great suggestion. I need axial mounts.šŸ˜•

Am I misunderstanding something? That bracket allows a radial caliper to be used on an axial mount fork tube.

Assuming the bracket can take the forces, it's the best option.

Another option: I put Tokico 6 pot caliper from an early 2000's ZRX on my T3 triumph (1995). Bolt holes matched up with no modifications. If that is what you originally had in mind, I can give you the bolt hole distance for reference. And if that works, there are lots of Triumph 4 pot calipers available. Those are lighter than the 6 pots and should be sufficient for something like a versys. My Tokico 6 pots are very heavy.

Yes, please. I'm not terribly interested in trying to convert to radial mounts, short of buying new forks, and that would blow my budget.

Damn, what kind of budget do you have?
I thought my Dad was cheap…
:ROFLMAO:

Forks, triples, calipers, and maybe wheels and rotors cost the same as just calipers?

Using my Harbor Freight digital caliper, I get 80.1 mm hole center to center. Assuming a bit of error, I'd round to 80 mm.

Thanks! I'll check.
