Motorcycle Quotes / Wise Words to Pass On

This is key^ on the track, in the dirt, and on the street it stays true. Eyes up, look through the corners. Short concise mantras like "eyes up" can save you when you get distracted.

Other good riding mantras I've learned include, "When in doubt, ride it out." Dont panic brake or be abrupt on the controls if it can be avoided. Stay smooth, calm, and often you'll find a way through the slide, obstacle, or whatever curve ball comes your way.

Another is, "Attack the apex." Gas it to your braking marker, turn in, and throttle out. Get on the apex not just in the general area of it.

"The fastest you go on the street is still dead last on the track"
Dick Mann.

Emergency Road obstacle avoidance... specifically critters.
... when to try to avoid that critter? (be it dead or alive)

If it's more than you can eat in a single meal... make every effort to avoid hitting it.

When life throws you a curve, lean into it!

Dirt riding...
Wheelie for safety!
(IOW... get that front wheel over that obstacle)

And, of course for us OG's...
You don't stop riding when you get old. You get old when you stop riding!

On the street a superior rider uses his superior knowledge, to avoid using his superior skills.

I read this on Barf, author unknown.

These primary apply to off road:

When in doubt, gas it out
Pin it, to win it.

"Don't let that bike teach you a lesson."

I think these two, as well as staying "mentally in the game" are really key to good riding.

I would agree. THE most important to street riders. :thumbup

All good quotes.

Here is one I use when test riding a potential new or used motorcycle:

“The test of the machine is the satisfaction it gives you. There isn't any other test. If the machine produces tranquility it's right. If it disturbs you it's wrong until either the machine or your mind is changed.”

-Pirsig

"In all my years of riding, I've always been more worried about getting caught than getting hurt." -- Unknown
