Man's stolen motorcycle returned 46 years later

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a Nebraska man is getting his motorcycle back — 46 years after it was stolen from his backyard...

(You can read the rest of the article at the link I provided above)

The bike is in beautiful condition and being returned to the owner.

Let's hope BARFers who've had their bikes stolen don't have to wait 46 years... but that's some good looking out on the part of the US Customs people.:banana

and it looks like its in great condition too

i bet they took better care of it then the actual owner would have.

Great outcome. That doesn't happen too often. If it hadn't been sold through legitimate channels, it would have never resurfaced. Whoever last had it never knew it had been stolen.

Great ending for the original owner. Maybe not so great for the recent owner. It's probably in better shape now then when the original guy owned it.

Awesome. Awesome.

Wish they found the original thief.

I hope the original owner still rides, I would love to see the smile on his face.

I dunno why, but I feel really sorry for the guy who just lost the bike...
Glad a bike stolen 46 years ago was recovered, I'm sure the original theft victim will be happy to get it back, and sell it for its current value... but geez...
I'd be a lot happier if they'd found the original thief...

My dad had his '72 AMC Javelin stolen ~30 years ago. Got my fingers crossed it'll show up again.

The San Jose PD found my stolen bike, two years later.

There was no way for me to get it back, since the insurance had already paid out for a total loss. They wouldn't even let me come see it. Infuriating. :nchantr

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a Nebraska man is getting his motorcycle back — 46 years after it was stolen from his backyard.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Monday the black and blue 1953 Triumph Tiger 100 was recovered last week at the Port of Los Angeles. It was on its way to Japan, with its value listed as $9,000.

The bike was reported stolen in February 1967. It was worth $300 then and wasn't insured.

The California Highway Patrol will return the bike to its original owner, who is now in his 70s and still lives in Omaha, Neb. His name was not released.
