Could be. I don't find anything the color of anti-freeze appetizing. Mayhaps my parents taught me that though. Which still means it is probably one of our oldest bits of culture (culture being something that is passed down from generation to generation). Neither do I, but I have a morbid fascination.
I've given up trying to know everything. Could have been fine not knowing about them.
As far as Mountain Dew? It's occupies the same location as Dr. Pepper, Monster and Red Bull; on the store shelf, not in my refrigerator.

I actually kind of like (sugar free) red bull on occasion in lieu of coffee. I know some hate the flavor, I kind of like it.
