I moved away from the Bay Area after about 25 years there, and recently I remembered barf. I was never a huge poster here, but I did spend a lot of time reading, arguing, buying bikes, all the things that made barf great. It was a go-to source of entertainment for me for a long time. But then Covid hit and there was a shift.

I guess I always assumed that there were a bunch of people here who were at least a little like me. Different, sure but not crazy. I came here looking for info, or places people might be riding. Nope, we shouldn’t be riding!!! I flipped through a few posts and people were just going nuts. Total hysteria about overwhelming hospitals if I crashed, etc. etc. you remember.

And it just kept going. And I stopped coming here. I lived my life and rode my bike. Everything I saw here was nasty and panicky. I’m sure there were some who were reasonable, saw through the bs, maybe there still are. But the well is poisoned. I sometimes miss California, and sometimes miss what I used to get out of barf. But really it’s more like finding out an actor you liked was actually a pedo. All their work is tarnished and you’ll never see them in the same light or watch their movies.

Barf lost me in the same way. The people here were so quick to demonize, push masks and vaccines, and tow the party line. It was just sad. So I’ll leave you with a few links that most of you will dismiss. That’s fine. Some people might find the content enlightening. Farewell to those of you who aren’t crazy, and good riddance to the rest.

Welcome back. And in certain ways I have felt as you did. In one thread someone tried to tell me I was psychotic. And I, too, was against the Covid hysteria and stated my views on the subject. And I caught crap from others about those views. But I persevered and I’m still here. I continue to contribute as i can. Some threads have stupid shit in them but hey, it’s a public site. But the site is still basically solid and I commend Budman on the job he is doing. And I will continue to post here, especially because I’m old (nearly 74) and my wife died four years ago. I have nothing better to do.

Wow, that's a ironic post. I would recommend going back to living your best life away from things that annoy you (y)

Basically" I came back years later, still but hurt over things that were posted on the interweb because they didn't support my view".....Did I miss anything?

Basically "I hate BARF, but love posting my shit for sale here. I'm going to be nice here until I actually move, then I'll talk shit."

I think you left out the part about his popular covid era move from the Bay Area and wishing we cared at all that people left in some sort of misguided protest to this state.

Wow. You come back after years, do not research that this site has changed a little and post political stuff in General. You must be a hoot at parties.

This thread will go to the P-Trap in 3....2.....1.....

Just so you know, there are differing opinions in this world. Yours is not always right. The sooner you realize that and accept it, the better life will be. In other words, live your life and let others live theirs.

And by the way, Covid was a world problem not just an American problem.

I really did not want to respond to a BARF bashing thread, but the lean into politics is forcing my hand.

Let's not go down that hole please.

While I understand the OP's feels (I did check out the links) I think BARF did a pretty damn good job on sharing info about the pandemic. Many thanks to the folks that stepped up to that who were involved in the fields that were deeply involved and not just locked down like the rest of us. That was huge and gave our community some insight that may have been hard to gather otherwise.

Yes.. we did suggest "Officially" that is was not a good time to go ride for good reasons and we also allowed discussion on both sides of the issues at hand. For sure some people had other opinions and as always BARF management prefers to take the high road and allow discussions to take place.

By that I mean we don't try to "officially" stifle peoples opinons and of course that means those that share from either side will get labelled as a BARF thing. That has always happened here and while I accept it, I also know that is not where BARF sits for me as the owner. This thread is another example of that openess to let YOU all do YOUR thing. I value that and even when it bites at me I realize there is value in doing so.

Humans naturally think what they think is the right way to think and everyone else who thinks differently is dumb.

Hanging here has given me some different perspective I probably would not have been exposed too and I think that has been a positive in understanding the human existance. I have learned to appreciate people with different opinions by focusing on their positive aspects.

I am positive that BARF is generally pretty fucking cool and the people I have met through the site are as well.

Budman...You have done a wonderful job with BARF. Do not let this one person get you down. As you said, you allow people to discuss issues which is what it should be about. People (now a days) tend to not listen to other opinions. If a person does not agree with another persons opinion now, it tends to end in a huge argument and name calling. I grew up respecting others even if I did not agree with them.

Covid precautions are like motorcycle gear: what level of risk is acceptable to you?
In states without helmet laws I've seen guys on cruisers in leather vests, blue jeans, work boots, sunglasses and a bandana. I read an article in a cruiser mag that suggested wearing a helmet put a rider at risk of breaking their neck in a get off. Hell ride around in nothing but a speedo if your state allows it. Of course no trackday provider will let you on the track without protective gear, so there are places where those in charge can tell you what to do.

Every one of the links are promoting a buy it now or collect our data points. None of them offer real factual analysis. One of the links wants us to distribute the movie and generate additional revenue for the producers.

I’m personally very pleased to see long time multi decade members returning; however, just to mock and throw mud on us is sad.

I wish you well in future friendships and endeavors.
