Mt. Hamilton closed for a few months

Okay, just the observatory and visitor center are closed, but I couldn't resist a clickbait title.

On Christmas morning the winds hit 114 mph and blew one of the two telescope doors off of the dome and onto the roof of the visitor center, damaging both. The telescope inside was not damaged. They're hoping to get it all repaired in time for the 150 year celebration this summer. Who knows if they'll let you park in the parking lot along the railing while they're fixing things.

Massive damage but the actual telescope is unharmed. They already had a crane in place yesterday afternoon.

The structure does rotate; too bad they don’t do what is done with aircraft and turn the structure into the wind to keep it from flipping.
