I have a friend who is trying to resurrect a blown skorpion. Im having a very hard time finding any source for parts or information on the bike. Anyone have any ideas of where i could turn? Is it a hopeless endeavor?

iirc its got the yamaha, raptor, 660 motor in it.

a friend of mine had one, you can go to sfmoto. They=distributors. Or to any Yamaha shop. Or bikebandit.com

Maybe not all shops can work on this one. One pretty popular shop in SF changed the oil incorrectly once--the oil spilled afterwards... They had to redo it, go figure.

(btw it's a german bike that's why that work was complicated) (it has an extra oil canister or something)

MZ is indeed german. :teeth

:twofinger
The only MZ worth owning is the Baghira, IMHO.

Oh yes, some day it will be mine.

Scuderia West and SF Moto are going to be your only shot. I I know both shops still have some New Old Stock parts, but there are getting few and far between. Like said before, motor parts available through any Yammie dealer, but anything other than that is going to prove difficult. The company finally closed it's doors for good earlier this year, so even sourcing them from Germany will prove problematic.

Good luck with it!

I'd just find a wadded Raptor quad that uses the new Yamaha 700cc single-cylinder motor with fuel injection and use that. :p

Or talk to Gerry, he has built some crazy-fast Yamaha singles over the years, he's quite the expert on big Yamaha thumpers.

im mostly concerned with getting the specs for rebuilding the top end. gotta split it apart and check the damage. Are all yamaha 660s equal, or did the cases/heads/cyls differ at all?

From memory... the raptor cases and bottom end are different. Think there's a reverse gear in the transmission or some ATV bullsheit.

Its not just german, its east german.

Had a chance to get a Skorpion Replica a few years back when I was living behind the Orange Curtain....

Been kicking myself ever since. Good luck on the resurrection.

-Q!

SF Moto said that the clutch was exactly the same as the 660 Raptor, so I ordered the friction plates. I'll see how it goes. He didn't have to answer me beacuse he wasn't making any money off of the information, so :thumbup to SFM.

I had never heard of one of these until seeing this thread yesterday, and then seeing an MZ Skorpion parked in downtown Berkeley when I grabbed lunch just now.

The owner had a few stickers on it and I looked around to see if any were of a parts supplier or shop but they weren't. Sorry, OP and Roadstergal.

SFMoto helped me out on a few things too, and their info was always tops. You'll be aiight.

Check out mzriders.com too. Tons of stuff there.

Edit: I see you're already there! :thumbup
