my computer is pretty much infested with viruses. and a computer guy at work told me to run the restore disk that the computer came with-unfortunately with all the moving that ive done i seemed to have misplaced them... I have avg antivirus and it worked up until i tried to run a test, which only made things worse. the viruses will not let the computer finish the healing process. any way if anyone reading this can help me out please email, pm me whatever. What kind of computer do you have? I think the restore disks are usually machine-specific. But I'm sure if you have your own legitimate product key (look for the sticker on your computer), it wouldn't be a big deal for somebody to burn you a copy of the Windows XP CD, though I'm not sure of the legality of that approach, even if you use your own serial number.

Press it when the machine is booting up, before the windows splash screen comes up. Normally, this is when the little white bar is moving across the bottom of the screen. You may have to try it a couple of times to get it right.
