I managed to lose the insulated liner for my leather jacket. It's from the same company that makes draggin jeans, a women's Barracuda in large, and it's the most bestest jacket ever!! I tried on everything at Cycle Gear and Scuderia and Road Rider and couldn't find ANY jackets that fit me properly, but this one fit perfectly right out of the box. Between the zippered vents and the liner I can wear it comfortably in really cold, rainy, or hot weather. I love it.

Problem: Fast Company does not manufacture this jacket anymore. They have no replacement liners. They only have 5 of these jackets left in stock in my size at all (and they're all orange).

I may have to buy an entirely new jacket just to get a liner. I'll do it if I have to.

BUT-- does anybody know if it might be possible for me to take my jacket to some kind of tailor or something and get them to sew me a new liner? It just needs to be the right general size and shape with a zipper around the edge and snaps for the sleeves.

QFT. I got an old 1980's jacket second hand and the guys at Johnson's did a sweet sweet job of relining it and closing one small tear in the leather. You'll probably end up with something better than what came with it.

Cool... any idea how long it might take? I'll probably need to leave my jacket with them and as it's the only one I've got I'll be stuck with the bus until it's ready.

A light synthetic-fill jacket or vest might be a good substitute for your jacket liner. I have one I use that way sometimes.

Plenty of bargains to be had too, at campmor.com, sierratradingpost.com, mec.ca, etc. Steepandcheap.com, too but they have one item at a time, changing regularly.

When it get really cold I take my North Face fleece and zip it into my jacket. The zipper fits, in fact, 95% of clothes made in the last ten years will have YKK zippers and almost all of them will have one of four sizes. Try it out, you probably have a jacket that zips in already.

Couldn't you wear a sweater?
No. No such thing as sweaters, you're just talking crazy now. :p

The zipper for the liner is shaped like an upside-down U, it's not one that just goes straight up the sides, so I can't zip a regular liner on to it.

I can put on a fleece jacket underneath the riding jacket, sure, but it's one more step to deal with in the morning getting gear on and gear off and carrying my gear around with me at school (no top case to stuff it in), plus the mesh inside my jacket scrapes my knuckles, plus the fleece jacket's sleeves are a bit long and bulky and bind up and make my shirtsleeves run up my arms and make it hard to zip my cuffs shut and get my gloves on. And so on.

It really would be worth it to pay a bit of cash to get a real liner in the thing. Meanwhile I'm using my coat but it's a pain I could do without.

How much would a new jacket cost you? If it's not that expensive buy an orange one and snag the liner and then sell it liner-less for a good deal to someone here on barf. :teeth

If the one below is the orange one then it's not all that bad looking.

A while. It's a popular shop. IIRC, my jacket had ~10 day lead time.

It's about $200. Looks exactly like that one in the pic except with more vent zippers on it. My current one is yellow, and I hate yellow too so orange is no worse than what I've got. I'm definitely considering getting a 2nd one just cause I like this jacket so much and they've discontinued them-- but I would still only have the 1 liner then, and it's more likely to wear out first or get lost again, so...

or you could have one that you like and take the liner out of the second one and have a copy made that you know is gonna fit right. solves the problem and gives you more choices when picking the morning jacket.

Fleece is OK, but I was thinking something more like this:

The sleeves slide in and out of your moto jacket easier than fleece. You can leave it in the moto jacket if you want. And you can get a vest also/instead so you don't need to deal with the bulk of sleeves unless it's really cold.

It should be lighter and more compressible for the weight than fleece. And it will work better as a stand alone jacket than most moto jacket liners will.

How about getting a Gerbing jacket liner? It won't zip to the jacket, but besides keeping you pretty warm on it's own, you can plug it in when it gets really cold.

Softshell jacket, dirt cheap at Costco, and a Smartwool underlayer. I layer up in the cold, even go with a down sweater somtimes. A ski/board parka and ski pants are great for rain over leathers.

I was going to suggest exactly this...and since it doesn't zip into any particular jacket you can take it from jacket to jacket and when it REALLY get's cold you just plug it in and...aaaaaaaaah....warmies!:) AND...you can wear it as a light jacket on it's own off the bike if you need to. I so regret not getting my Gerbing's liner sooner....
