In alot of posts I see that people find many statistics about motorcycles and crashing. I'm working on a persuasive speech and need some statistics about motorcyclists and crashing while soberdru nk, without m1, without permit...just any stats I can incorporate into my speech. Thank BARF surfers. So far i'm using this thread posted by Lonster for some stats, but need more:

search for the Hurt Report. It was done in the '70s, but will still be a valid source for statistics if you look at it for proportions within the community.

To save you a little time at the NHTSA site, start here. The pulldowns link to various reports, most as PDFs. The "Fact Sheets," including the annual motorcycle sheet, go back to 1993 and have a good overview.

The "Annual Reports" are a couple of hundred pages long and cover all vehicles, but they go into more detail on motorcycles than do the Fact Sheets. They are indexed and, because they're PDFs, they're searchable.

You'll find several motorcycle-related publications in "Reports" and "Research Notes."

Ditto the MAIDS report recommendation. Free registration is required, but you can then download the 170-page PDF.

This Michigan study (1997-2002) includes data on all reported crashes while NHTSA has actual data on fatalities and estimates (sometimes questionable) on non-fatal crashes.

If you don't already know about this (I just discovered it last week), the Kinkos website allows you to place a print order by uploading a PDF, specifying options, and submitting a credit card for payment. You can choose to have it sent to you, or you can pick it up at your nearest Kinkos store.
