Like most Barfers I like to read motorcycle classifieds just to see what's out there and for how much. One thing I've noticed as a selling point is the fact that a bike has "never been raced" or "never seen the track." Many of these bikes are Ducati 1098s or R1s, which are made for the track and hence in their element.

Why is this a selling point?

Crashed stunting at Starbucks.:shocker

"Never raced." = "But I rode the hell out of it every chance I got."

Taking another POV..."Never raced/tracked" indicates to me that the bike has spent a lot less time at redline than one that has, and is less likely to have been crashed & repaired. That said, racers "generally" do a much better job of maintaining their stuff than recreational riders. So in the end, particularly with a bike that is engineered for "ultra-high performance" such as high end Duc or R-bike it may be a wash but for a bike like say...an SV650 it might be a bigger deal.

More wear and tear on a bike that is ridden at it's limits then if you're just posing at *$'s or rolling through the twisties. I wouldn't want to buy a bike that has been tracked if I was just going to ride it on the street. I want a bike that's been owned by someone like me, who rides the Pace, does the scheduled maintenence, and has kept it in a garage. It's one reason why I usually buy new bikes, no surprises.

Both of the above are valid points.

"Never raced" is a lot less typing than "I can't ride well so this bike was never ridden at more than 35% of its potential." :laughing

Of course, when someone says that, they're trying too hard. Kind of like when someone sells you a car and says that they were mostly freeway miles. How are they going to back up a statement like that? GTFO

my next motorcycle for sale ad will include "seat farted on daily"

Just watch out for the old.."Wife knocked it over in the garage." sales pitch.
