New Bike Suggestion: Hypermotard SP or F3 800, F4, or 959?

Ya know...I'd probably do this, right here:

https://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534337

Price point is spot on and the V4 is one of the sexiest beasts to ride when on full wail...plus, he's put all the good money into it. That's a hard one to resist...and Priller's are dead sexy to ride. Almost more so than a Ducati.

I own an F3 800. I’m built like an ape, so the riding position doesn’t bother me.

That being said, your ass would be dead. There are no comfort options for seats, either.

Parts are a pain in the ass to get.

Owned an 899. The exhaust will roast you on a hot day. Even with the upgraded shielding.

If you’re looking at a Triple, I’d recommend the Street Triple. Great motor. Great bike.

If you’re looking for a twin, the Supersport is a decent bike. A bit underpowered and the riding position makes it feel like a Ninja 250, which isn’t a bad thing for touring and commuting.

^^^I'm really enjoying my FJ-09 and the Tracer is one of the few bikes that I'd say would definitely fit the bill (and for a good price to boot).

But the OP said he's got his heart set on an Italian bike, and sometimes ya just gotta follow your heart.

Follow your heart.

Then realize your heart doesn't have any logical reasoning skills, and buy a Japanese bike.

Take a look at a pic of an MV Augusta Turismo Veloce. 800cc Triple, TFT screen, Traction Control, ABS, Auto shifter / blipper, adjustable windscreen and quick release hard bag option. IMO a sexier Multistrada / XR1000.

My friend had a MV Agusta Brutale 800. Last Sunday he hit a bump going pretty fast. Instant tankslapper. He had it almost under control when he hit a second bump and bike went violently out of control. He jumped off before it highsided. Totalled the bike. Short wheelbase, steep head angle and a powerful motor means a lively chassis. It had a damper on it too. Btw- parts from this bike will soon be available, including a very sexy Italian pipe.
pm for details.

Sure but when it comes to motorcycles, logic doesn't always count for much. It often takes a back seat to passion and whatever makes your heart sing. And that's not so bad IMO.

The chassis’s not that lively. For a while I had CF rims on it and it steered a bit too quick, but never got out of control. I can’t vouch for the Brutale, but this bike’s chassis is planted. I’ve got a steering damper on it but, before I put it on, I never experienced anything weird.

The only thing I noticed were that the Supercorsas fell into the turn, then stabilized. That was about it.

If you give yourself enough time, you'll probably end up getting something you thought you'd never buy.

Like I wanted something like my FJR, only much lighter, and looked at Tigers for 6 months, then veered off to MT09's and VStroms, then I impulsively grabbed my 690 Duke, but still had the FJR waiting to go away, then on a trip to Italy, I rented an Africa Twin, loved it but it was too big, the week after, a Multistrada, also tall, but well-balanced, so after looking at something like 5-6 other bikes, some seriously...I was on another trip to overseas, rented 2 different WetHead BMWs...and ended up buying my R1200R, after telling myself, I would never, ever own another BMW. And of course, I love it.

Believe me, it is possible to think your way down a lot of rabbit holes. So save yourself all the grief of deciding and let the BARF Oracle decide....
.....
Get the MultiStrada!

Let us know what you end up buying

So after much consideration and trips to different dealers, I ended up finding a killer deal on a Triton Blue 2018 GSXR 750 brand new out the door for under msrp, and I couldn't pass it up. Eventually I will add a more practical bike, but for now I'm super happy cruising around on my new bike:ride

If you want to do 300-400 mile days, you probably shouldn't be buying a race replica that was designed for 20-minute track sessions. That means the 959 Panigale and the two MV's are out. The Hypermotard is nice if you can deal with the seat height and fuel range limitations. You might also want to consider the Ducati Supersport S. It has its flaws, but I'd much rather spend 300-400 miles on it than the bikes you've mentioned...

pshaw

it really depends on the individual. I just did a 400+ mile day with a group on mostly supersports up to mendocino and back on some pretty awesome roads (and some not so awesome road lol) and yeah, the end of the day was a bit rough but we're all still alive, nobody threw a disc out...
