New Electric Sport Bike

WTF:wtf why does being green cost sooooo fricking much?
Green house gasses and tree huggery be damned!
Ok I'll pass on that one too.
What's the gross weight on it?

The batteries are expensive plus you're paying for R&D. A lot of these electric bike companies are small and are making small quantities, so it costs more to make.

Yea their website is down??
Did they run out of money or close down?
With the cost of that 500lb monkey id think mainstreamers wont even look at it.
Being green costs money ,and even a ducati panigale R doesn't cost that much.
Not that id buy one of those.
So its a big pass for me because I wouldn't spend that much on a bike that I cant get from here to LA on.
Ohh yea what happens to the batteries once they are toast?
Seems like another problem with hazardous waste.

So wait: Brammo had trouble selling this bike at a lower price point, so Victory has re-branded it and is trying to move it at a higher price point without making any significant improvements? :wtf

Many EV batteries are re-tasked for things like home solar power storage.

in another article i read through, victory claimed they did some redesign on the battery with zero elaboration.

who knows.

It looks basically is the old Brammo Empulse. So much so that I suspect they just swapped the badging on the old bike, then raised the price.

That being said, I like that we have a somewhat major US motorcycle company looking toward modern technology and design. I think this bears well for Victory in that it could be a start of a major american brand that doesn't focus exclusively on cruisers. With Polaris backing there is an opportunity for Victory to compete with the European manufacturers, if not the Japanese ones.

2016 Victory Empulse TT

We all knew this was coming when Polaris bought up Brammo not too long ago. Here it is less than a year later...

Will electrics become mainstream now that a big player in the bike business has one on the market now? Will H-D really get serious about the Livewire and make a proper sellable bike with it?

I personally think BMW would've been better suited to bring an electric to market. Their customer base seems to be more of the type that might do an electric and an electric would slot better into their model lineup, and more importantly fit in better with the $20k price tag. But hey, Victory might gain some market share by bringing customers it otherwise wouldn't have had since all the other things they make are air cooled cruisers.

You should have checked, there is already a thread on this. Mods please merge threads.:)

Give it several years. Costs will go down. Much like hybrids, their popularity will increase and mass production means they will need to lower their price point.

Still excited about the Harley Livewire as well. Major manufacturers getting into the game is a good thing. Did expect Victory to price it better to get the product established.

As for fuzzy math my guesstimate was 1k in gas and 1k other maintenance (service/oil/etc) but you are right could likely be less. But even $1500 is still not insignificant.

With the marketing budget of Polaris behind it, I think they'll sell more than Brammo ever did. Never underestimate marketing being able to move goods at a price that's well above what it's really worth. Bose, Apple, Louis Vuitton, etc.

Yeah the $20k seems high. I would've expected the H-D to come in at the $20k, but not the underdog brand. Based on this, now I imagine H-D will want $25k for the Livewire if they do sell it.
