I can't believe how horribly they've slowed it down, cluttered it up and removed vital features.

I just figured out you can click the question mark near the bottom right and return to the old version. But it seems even that will go away soon.

Anyone here work for Google? Tell 'em for me whoever is in charge of this is an idiot.

Just now finding this out? Yes, it's complete shite. Removing the ability to right click was absurd.

People looooove to complain when their favorite sites get updates in look or functionality. Usually it's not a big deal, it's just different. Normally when websites change I just try to roll with it and learn to use the new version because I figure the change is inevitable and it ain't going back.

I've been trying to use the new Gmaps every time to learn it and adjust. But sometimes it just wont do what I want it to do and I have to switch back to the 'classic' version. I agree your complaint here is valid; the new gmaps is worse than the old version.

What'cha talking about? You can still right click anywhere on the map and get "directions to here", "direction from here", "add a destination", and "what's here?".

My main complains are that is doesn't allow as many waypoints when building direction. If you are trying to make a long complicated route you are stuck. Also, it doesn't number the waypoints, so if I click a link and it's a loop I can't tell which way it goes. Also it's so slow; when you zoom in it takes it some time to redraw the blue route line.

Not to mention terrain view, which I love, went away. And street view, another awesome feature, doesn't work nearly as well. And the whole thing is just ugly, awkward and S L O W.

You can still do terrain.. Just click the gear thingie next to the question mark at the bottom right of the page, then look up to the left top corner and select it.

Edit: It is kind of sucky.. I also think maybe it works differently on different browsers and browser versions.

Looks like they've put that back. You couldn't do that for a while, ridiculous.

I've planning a road trip and really trying to use new Gmaps for it. But I just had to throw in the towel for good and tell it to always take me to the old version.
Sometimes it's unbearably slow, sometimes a bug messes up the display (like all the roads were dashed lines) and sometimes I just can't figure out how to do stuff. For instance, how do you select terrain view when it's showing driving directions? I know how to switch to terrain view under the 'getting around' menu when just the map is up, but when it's displaying directions the 'getting around' menu is gone.

I agree completely. I use this almost daily for work. It is almost non-functional now.

It's only slow for me on my work PC. On my Macbook at home it's lightning fast. YMMV :dunno

Good point, its quite a bit faster when using Chrome for than IE. But it still sucks.

and I have to switch back to the 'classic' version.

I did not know you could do that. I was planning a route earlier and struggling, just switched back to classic. :thumbup

Thanks for that bit of info.

The above link will let you use the old version. I haven't touched the new version since it came out. This is the link I use as a bookmark. However, I have no idea how long they will keep it functioning. My hopes and dreams are that if they see the majority of people using the old one, they'll just abandon the new one and realize they should not have fixed what wasn't broken.

I use it in Chrome on a variety of computers, from OK, very fast. The new Gmaps always draws slow for me. When you have driving directions displayed and try to zoom in using the mouse wheel, it just stays blurry for a while while it re-draws. Old version re-draws from different zoom levels much faster.

I always give feedback about why I don't like it any chance I get through their little feedback tools.

I did give feedback when it first came out. Below is their response to me. It's a little shitty, and alotta canned if you ask me.

Hello,
Growing up, directions were simple—in my hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, the roads conveniently run north to south and east to west (and there's only one hill to block the view). For more than a decade, my team and I have been working to make it just as easy for you to see the world and get where you're going.
I'd like to thank you for trying out the new Google Maps and helping us make it better. With your great feedback, now it's even easier to decide where to go, how to get there, and what to explore in the area (with Pegman's help if needed). Now we're ready for the rest of the world to try it out.
Even though the new Google Maps has launched, we're just getting started. There will be some things we don't get quite right, so please continue to let us know how we're doing. I look forward to mapping together for many more years to come.
