New Kawasaki for 650 twins

sweeet.... more points on the grid.. :teeth

Punch a hole in the exhaust, BOOM....homemade rear tire warmer. :laughing

Hope you don't have big cajones....they will get pinched in the shock spring. Ouch!

I guess I'm the only one that thinks this is really cool.
I'm not saying that it's an SV killer but it looks like it has the potential do give the SV's a run at least.
We won't know until we see some real dyno numbers, but this could make FIV that much more interesting.

Here's a link the RRW article
http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=23884

That's just a Kawi press release, not a RRW article. They just republished what Kawi sent them.

The SV guys have nothing to worry about. :teeth

if you sit backwards on it geometry should be realy close :)

I think Kurt got it right. Some stupid SOB is going to try to race one of these just because it's in the garage at the time, only to find out he started down the wrong track. .... literally!

....So Kurt. Do ya see a number 6 in your future?

I think it's funny. While KC and Zoran are making mini SV's the Kawi shop turns around and makes a mondo EX.

That same stupid SOB likely didn't spend what it costs to build an SV500 though, and can much more cheaply rectify his error. :D

Yea right, I finally broke into the top 10 and got so excited that I cartwheeled through the carosel and broke my leg. Figures. ;)

I hope somebody does break out one of those kawi's, who knows it might be the next best thing.... probably not though.

Let's not forget the SV was a bit of a POS when Zoran first brought one out in '99. I actually managed to stay in front of him once or twice on a 650 Hawk before he sorted out the suspension and motored away from me. A competitive SV still requires a GSXR front end as well as a few other mods.

HOWEVER on this Kawi, when you look at the forks, brakes, frame, shock and that POS swingarm that looks weaker than a XR100 swingarm... well, it's safe to say it will take buckets of money and modifications to make it even remotely competitve.

Will it be a good streetbike? Sure, it's a twin. My BMW is also a great streetbike, but I wouldn't want to take it to the track... I guess I'm mostly disappointed with the bike because they could've just stuffed that motor in the current or even last generation 600 frame(ZZR600) and it could've been a SV killer. As far as I can tell, it's just going to be a steamin' turd with some bling... :(

Now you're getting warmer... it would be legal in 650 twins too, right? Maybe get one of those trick ZRX400 chassis and slap in this motor?

I like it!
As mentioned, the SV is no track eater out of the showroom floor either. The front end is crap and the rear shock is not even worth mentioning. It does have a great frame though and it's been developed for about six years now.

We'll have to wait and see with this kawi. If the frame is up to the task, the rest can be played with. ZX6R front end, after market shock, rearsets, etc...After that's been sorted, the motor can be loked into. Zoran and KC both have experience with parallel twins.
Then we'll be able to tell the story as it is.

I certainly wouldn't mind shaking one down if I have the funds for the R&D when they become available.

It's always the winner who has the most HP, isn't it... When Kurt wins he's got a Z motor. When Brian wins, he's got 90hp... Brian's old bike is out there racing WSMC. I wonder if that guy has had it dynoed at 90...

I doubt anyone knows of any 90hp SV's in the AFM because the guys who have them aren't going fast enough for anyone to care.

:laughing :laughing :laughing

Are they the same one's that have Ohlins superbike front ends?
:confused
And 16.5" wheels :teeth

it is realy easy to know who has 90 hp.
every one that finishes in front of you :)

exactly, hence me knowing that foreman, jacobsen and broussard all have at least 80hp compared to my 44hp!
