New Kawasaki Ninja 400

Just some semi- related comments.
I started racing on 600s. The last one being an Ex Stanton CBR600F1
Then switched to a 250, in this case a reverse cylinder TZR followed by the V-twin. Both 250s made around 45 hp max. I had more fun by far on the 250. Precise handling, awesome brakes. No torque to speak of but taught me to use the motor. Of course both 250s have a aluminum beam frame. And I'm 6'3" tall. I think I became a much better racer due to the small bikes.

Lil’ Blue is now in my garage. I know I’m going to have a ton of fun on this little machine. So far my only minor gripe is that there’s no tab on the kickstand for putting it down. That’s going to take some getting used to...

I'm so jealous right now. Congrats on the N400. Such an awesome little machine.

Hopefully if things work out right, I can find a used one in KRT term for a steal next year.

Congratulations. Great looking bike.

FYI just got my insurance quote. Full coverage comp/collision $36.88 a month with State Farm...:thumbup

Ninja fourhundo vs Ninja 250 0-1000m race. (1/4 mile)

The black one definitely looks and sounds like a 650. Although not sure how it falls so behind the bike marked 400.

Yeah, if the new 400 is faster than the 650, I'm putting my 300 up for sale and getting the 400!

I think it is a JDM spec Ninja 250 I don't think they have the 300s in Japan because of the laws and stuff. The 400 I believe is the biggest you can get before you have to get a larger bike license.

found this on a ninja forum
There were never a 300cc market in Japan.
Is because of Japan's law to make sure all motorcycles above 250cc take vehicle inspection that costs over 500~1000 USD. (Vehicle inspection every 2 year, buy it brand new and the first inspection is in 3 years)

So all the 300cc in Japan's market are all "reimported".
In fact all ZX series are "reimported" from EU/USA/ASIA.
You get a different colour license plate for 50cc, 125cc/150cc, 250cc, and anything else above.

With all the money and hassle that it takes to own a motorcycle with 251cc and over, all the 300cc models in other countries came out as 250cc in Japan.

I finally got a chance to ride both a ninja 400 and ninja 300 back to back the other day. I've gotta say the 400 really stood out to me. The increase in power was noticeable, but the thing I appreciated most was how much smoother and torquier it was. It honestly felt stronger than the honda 500 powerplant, but in a lighter package. I only rode the thing a few miles, but I feel like this bike really found it's perfect niche. Not only is it the best in class, it's got enough power to ride freeway speeds without struggling to keep up. Getting the ninja 300 to 80mph felt like a chore, where the 400 was there with almost as much ease as a 650cc twin.

I think Kawi knocked it out of the park with this one. I've always been a horsepower addict, but the combination of the light weight and the stronger engine really brought this bike to life for me - it felt like a gocart - not as fast as a supersport, but damn if it wasn't fun to flick around corners and run up the revs. I want one.

The black and red bike in the video is a Ninja 650. Look at the shock.

My first new bike was a Yamaha XS400 back in the 70's.
Perfect size and weight with disk brakes (new that year).

The only drawback is that it was a bit under powered for two up riding.
That's why I moved up to 650 eventually.

If you won't be carting other people around, a 400 is nearly ideal.

I sat on this at the dealership a few weeks ago and am tempted.... Feels super light.
