For your intended use, I would pick whichever brand and model is the best deal you can find. Probably for less than $500.

The stipulation that you won't be doing any gaming just opens up the gates. If you're just going to be doing web browsing, streaming services, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc, pick whatever one has a keyboard that fits your hands/fingers most comfortably, has the mouse pad you like best, whatever color you want. Pretty much all of them are going to be sufficient for your needs.

I'm going to need a new laptop sometime in the next year and am also looking at recommendations. If it has all of the features that I need for watching YouTube videos, it will do everything else that I need too.

Spend a bit more and get a certified refurb MacBook Air with the M4 directly from Apple. Comes with the same warranty as a new one. You will not need another laptop for at least a decade.

But hey, if you like getting kicked in the balls because of Win11 and all their ad shit, go ahead.

Has there been a laptop made in the last 20 years that isn’t capable of watching YouTube. You could blindly pick anything and it would get the job done

If you can wait a few weeks and are not picky about brand or any high end features, black Friday should be perfect for you.

Low/mid range laptops are always available for a steal.

Browsing at Best Buy recently, I was surprised how cheap laptops have become for base models. You can buy a laptop for little more than the cost of a calculator.

Laptops are like big screen TVs. A capable laptop to do anything needed and run smoothly for 90% of the population have become so cheap and a saturated market. Same with TVs, 10 years ago? A 50"+ TV was still super pricey. Not so much today. It's a great time to buy electronics.

It's when you need to do some serious video editing that you have to pay up the ass.

The only reason I have a PC laptop is because Solidworks is not designed for Macs. Thus I have two. A top of the line Mac Book Pro and a top of the line 17” Lenovo.
