New Royal Enfield for 2010 in CA

I like it , a lot. That said it needs about ten more horsepower and beyond the niche market for old geezers like me with an abiding affection for big singles and twins I doubt it will fly well in the American market , sad to say.

But it's cool that they're at least updating it.

First 4stroke bike I ever rode was an Enfield Bullet 500. I was 17 [97'] back in Romania and I met two world travelers [a brit and an aussie] who had rode them from India and were on they're way to Germany.
Still have the front licence plate from one.

Is it available with a side car? :)

Do you get one of their .303 caliber bolt action rifles with each purchase? :)

God DAMN those things are gorgeous! :drool

One of the salvage yards I used to frequent in Denver was an Enfield dealer. I remember when they were like $3k for a bike, but if you wanted the sweet factory cafe kit, it was another $2k. Super cool bikes for sure!

I'm getting me one of these when I move back to India in a couple of years...... I know a guy who visited India chopped one of these up put the parts in boxes and mailed it to himself here and then reassembled it when he got back from vacation......

So what would happen if you bought one of these in another state and then rode it / had it shipped back to CA? Would you have trouble registering it here? After all they don't (yet) make bikes pass smog checks....

Unless you rack up 7000 miles before you register in CA, you cant do it.
If you try to register before that your bike will be flagged and never be allowed to register in CA

Why? 2 words

SMOG NAZI"S

It's 7,500 miles and you just have to pay the sales tax all over again. ;)

I have NO idea about the smog side of it, my 1000rr was not a CA bike for what it's worth though...after paying the sales tax again - they handed me a plate. Nothing smog related whatsoever...

I stand corrected about the mileage. I believe CBR's are 50 state legal. Enfields are not. Hence the smog issue.

Trust me on this one, its not easy to bypass the smog nazi's (CARB) you'll be in for a fight. My first bike was an out of state bike w/ 100 miles on it from pennsylvania - It WAS 50 state legal and it still took 6 months of constant fighting to get a plate.
