Lol, just wheeled and dealed for my friends in LA for a Lexus.

Right away a few dealers just blatantly tell you 5-10k+ minimum over msrp.

Finally after awhile of calling around found a dealer only asking $2500. A few tactics I always use finally got the ADM slashed down by another 1k, my friends are happy - that's all that matters.

Just super surprised dealers blatantly advertise 5-10k over - no budging, oh well I just moved on to the next dealer

Whats it like in the bay area? 5-10k immediate markup like socal?

the car market is insane right now.

I just bought a 2021 CX5 Grand Touring Reserve using Costco pricing ($200 under MSRP). The dealer stopped Costco pricing the day after my request went through and the salesperson still honored the costco price. Otherwise it would be $2K over MSRP.
civics are going for $4K over.

Great choice.

My wife has a 2019 AWD Turbo.

Fine vehicles.

$3.2k under msrp back then of course.

wow gaj said you drive a girl car ARE YOU GONNA TAKE THAT

One could argue my wife's CX5 turbo is "manlier" than my 1994 Miata R.

No way she keeps up with me in the twisties though! :laughing

Mind you what people are now asking for first generation Miatas is insane which is why I upped my insurance to $7k on that car a year ago but now they are going for closer to $10k.

lol my wife will be the primary driver :). I still get to drive our 2014 mazda 3 (2.5L engine).

Our 2012 Mazda 6 met its demise last week as I was driving to drop off the kiddos at the bus stop. Made a uturn on a left green arrow. Two oncoming lanes, one lane o cars stopped, the far lane was clear for an AT&T truck to blast through the red light and make the front passenger side of my car crunchy. Car was totaled by state farm. new car time...kinda sucks but we were planning to get a CX5 anyways, but after this car shortage.

Man, so glad you came out of that ok.

When we were in the showroom in 2019 they had a gorgeous Mazda 6 Turbo on the floor and I tried to steer he in that direction to no avail.

Nevertheless, surprisingly the CX5 has exceeded my expectations on every front.

Enjoy.

Yea, the chip shortage is having real impact.

Thankfully it didn't impact my new bike, and we bought a new car last year.

Thats interesting because I never thought that it might have an effect on motorcycles as well. Does anyone know if it has affected any of the brands?

yeah it was not fun knowing we were paying way more than we should for the car. We did not really have a choice though. Trying to manage 1 car with my wife and 2 teen kids for one year or more...no way, 2 cars are worth the ~$3k that we overpaid according to GAJ's purchase back in 2019. We got a loyalty discount of $750, didn't help me feel much better financially. At least there's no car loan. I'm going to enjoy the crap out of this new car though :laughing

LOL, "U" lucky. : | :laughing

and that damn AT&T Truck driver who always blows the right is an a-hole. When rolling over (and much more so when flying-over) you can hit pedestrians and other cross-traffic! Oh wait,... Capt. Obvious

ugh, terrible, in-sane

Yeah, this current market is stupid. No one should ever pay MSRP for any "commodity" car...ever. $4k+ over MSRP for a brand new Civic? Fuck that noise. Shit's not a Ferrari.

So glad I'm not in the market.

Yup, no way in hell I am paying over MSRP. I'll just keep driving my shitboxes. :laughing

Even those have increased in value.

In the past three years or so my very good condition but high mileage 1994 Miata has tripled in value to over $7k.

Not selling of course; if the 200k mile engine blows I'll replace it.

with a 5.0! :teeth

I know someone with a 1997 Miata M-Edition (green) with 36k miles on it. Seriously mint condition. Wonder how much it's worth?

I want that car. I told him to call me first if he ever decides to sell it.
