If I use your bike, it'll be in the middle of my office so that's pretty secure. Parking in the garage or my outside parking lot has also been no problem.

Doc im sorry, but I cant make it. Its 5:30 and the leak in my radiator still wont stop even after i dumped 2 sealers in it. The crack must be big :(

Is there any chance I might be able to pick up the hand-outs (I think i read it somewhere that you will be having some passed out)??

Thanks Doc & Gary !!!

Valgar --- nice to see someone who finds the same things funny!

I'm going to post this just so that everyone knows...

We are referring to the now classic..

Gary J, and the humpin' head bearing bit...

Sorry Gary...but the motions you were making whilst demonstrating how to check for head bearing wear/failure were...

Uhm...

Classic...

:teeth
Hey Dave, glad that you and so many of the other BARFers made it up for the Suspension 1 Seminar tonight. Not a problem on getting a kick out of the body motions I guess I ended up making when illustrating the process for pulling on the fork legs to test for loose steering head bearings. Always glad to add a little off-beat (and unknown at the time) humor to the evening! :laughing

Regarding the complexity of the material tonight, not to worry as each of the three seminars gets progressively more detailed. Part 1 (that we presented tonight) is intended to just get people up to a basic level of familiarity on suspension concepts and terminology, clear up all the critical pre-bike setup issues, and equip them for the single most important suspension setup skill ....... setting "rider sag" via the measuring process and setting of spring preload.

Part 2 Seminar gets into the internal workings of "Damping Rod" forks vs. "Cartridge" forks, and discusses shim stack, compression and rebound damping concepts ..... and lots more. We do some show-n-tell of the internal components of a set of forks and shock, and get to see what really makes it all work up close and personal. The hands-on lab portion of Part 2 demonstrates the procedure for identifying (via setting) the optimum damping (rebound) settings on a sportbike, which fortunately is a skill that can be effectively taught to any rider ..... regardless of their motorcycle experience or mechanical skills level.

For the extreme die-hard's on the real nuts-n-bolts and how-to's of getting into the internals of their suspension setup and maintenance, Part 3 takes the material to the point of what's involved in opening up the internals of the suspension and setting up things like fork oil levels, spring preload spacer lengths, replacing fork seals, customizing components and bike geometry to address various handling issues, and lots more.

2 1/2 hours, which is the total window that we have in this Friday night format of the seminars, limits how much can realistically be presented in one evening ...... but for those that want the whole picture ...... making it to all three seminars will ultimately leave the multi-seminar attendee with a pretty good knowledlge of the whole suspension enchillada. :)

Hope everyone came away with a little better understanding of some suspension and bike setup basics from tonight's seminar, and look forward to seeing a lot of you BARFers that made it out ... at Part 2 (or Part 3), in the weeks ahead.

Cheers all ..........

Gary J

Thanks again Doc and Gary for the clinic....

It was a little more low-level than I anticipated (hence my early escape), information is still useful though.

Nice to see so many people showing up to learn a little about the beast they are sitting on.

Put me down for the 2nd clinic on March 14th Maybe I'll have the 636 back by then (BIG Maybe) and we can use it as the demo toy...

(And I didn't raise my hand when the "Who is here from BARF" question was asked because I saw your post in the newsgroups first, so I was there based on that.)

Great, see you at Suspension 2 WITH the 636. We'll tweek it during the workshop! What color are you getting?

Doc

Thanks Doc and GaryJ!! The class was very informative - it was a good way to provide a basis for further understanding of suspension set up. I think I speak for everyone that it's great to have experienced riders and racers taking this much time to pass on their knowledge for free.

Looking forward to part 2! (I already signed up via email)

Doc/Gary,

Mark me down for part 2.

:laughing <----- visualizing the "checking the head bearings" motion.

Thank you Gary and Doc:thumbup

The clinic was great and I learned alot:nerd

Also thank you for using my bike for the demo. It definetely felt different. I know there were a couple spots going to Berryessa that I used to "bottom out" and it didn't happen this weekend.
Thanks again :teeth

Oh yeah ...please mark me down for Part 2 ...:toothless
