NFL 2023

I didn't like reading that Wilks was apologizing for the blitz call at the end of the half. No one could have predicted the robbery Addison put down on that play. Ward had it covered like the last time when he bullied Addison to the ball. Well, Addison got his revenge. Nothing to apologize there for IMO.

anyways, yeah, maybe not a great defensive call, but I feel like Kyle gets off the hook a bit too with this. And he made it a point to call his DC out for it in the presser. I didn't see a lot of innovation on the offense especially in the outside run game tbf. Maybe he's saving that for the playoffs.

Really, 9ers shouldn't overreact to 5-2. They're fine. No one needs to fall on a blade here.

Yeah lots of overacting. They were 3-4 last year at this time. However knowing how last year ended they need to win the west to get at least one home playoff. if they can catch the eagles and get a bye in the playoffs, thats huge.

Kyle does get off the hook often. He gets too cute with all this smoke screen motion stuff that takes too long to develop especially when defenses like the Browns give Purdy zero time. More quick slant plays and use another running back aside from CMC and Deebo doesnt count.

I've wanted to years a tall speedy wide out.

I'm glad to see someone else say it. Kyle needs a manager. On his own, he's in it for a participation trophy. He gets bailed out by fluke plays and freak athletes. This series of games has demonstrated my frustration with him. Granted, we've lost a couple big names. I expect the same level of creativity with whoever is there. Give it a chance. And this DC is not cutting it. I don't know if it's coaching, or just the wrong players in the secondary. But, this defense sucks.

Fuck, now my 2nd QB on the field this season is in the Hospital behind this O-Line.

Good times.

At least you were expecting a rebuild. We get to ride that amazing ride of high expectations -> firesale....

:wtf But we weren't though. We all expected a rebuild in NY at the beginning of the Schoen/Daboll era last year.

Then they showed up and gave a legit playoff run after 5 years of drought and plain bad football.

I saw the coaching was for sure getting some of those guys last year to play over their heads, but we also saw some Day 1 & 2 Draft picks finally appearing to live up to their potential

On paper, everything improved this year. WR Room should have been fixed, we hit some key positions of need in the draft, but NFL fans everywhere are just perplexed about this apparent huge step back the Giants have taken.

While it is true, our legacy as the most injured team in football for the last decade or so appears to be back and Andrew Thomas, Daniel Jones, and Saquon Barkley haven't been on the field together much this year, they were all starting in that week 1 horror story against Dallas.

Rebuilding just isn't on the table right now, because DJ is our QB at least through the end of next year, his contract won't allow anything else.

Not picking nits with the Giants design, per se. I am not surprised that they will finish 3rd in the division. Honestly, until I see adjustments, I think the Seahawks have a strong run at taking the NFC West. And they look like they want it more.

We just traded Leonard Williams to the Seachickens. Giants may finish last in Division this year.

I am assuming this is a cap move, because we are cap maxed out and just lost our 2nd QB. Getting a 2nd and 5th for him honestly seems liek a smart move and good value, especially since Dex Lawrence was the better DT for us, but seeing that talented vet cut loose sounds like a sure fire promise that this is a lost season and we aren't going to fight to recover it.

Leonard Williams is an athletic flex D-Lineman that can play Tackle or End, so I expect the Seachickens will put him to good use as a rotational guy.

Looks like KC played even worse than the 49ers.

Will the Raiders "Raider" tonight and get eviscerated?

I expect them to classic Raider, which means they will surprise surge and soundly beat a top flight Lions team tonight to instill hope in their fans of a winning season worth some meaning, then to celebrate the win, they will trade Josh Jacobs to an Armenian Arms dealer for a Kicker that can make 70 Yard FG and a Nigerian Rugby Player who can run a 3.9 40, and then promptly lose to the lowly Giants next week.

The loss will be ignored by fans as the Raiders blanket the entire Vegas strip with the world's largest black banner proclaiming, "Just Win, Baby!"

The City of Las Vegas will say they did not wish to approve permits for the Banner, but ownership threats to move the team to Auckland, New Zealand in the middle of the stadium contract made them fearful of a need to issue the permit.

Autumn Wind!

Glad somebody asked about Raiders because reading Eldritch’s answer is so rewarding.

Re Purdy and no more Brocktober:
1) Defenses have figured him out more than before. He’s short, you can bat passes down and his tendencies are becoming more known. I think the word is out.
2) The play-calling was too predictable insofar as passing in the middle zone and the defense started timing their stops and got picks. He didn’t seem to want to throw to the edges or he was told not to (or no Deebo?). And he was willing to gamble on threading the needle to Kittle and they looked spectacular when successful but also were inherently risky. I repeat spectacular, ol Tony Romo was rhapsodic a few times.
3) He didn’t have Trent Williams blocking for McCaffrey et al resulting in shorter gains and changed subsequent plays callled. Between injuries and the blocking, CMC didn’t have as much sling in his shot.
4) And this is the one that was mentioned here years ago: because pre-season training is supposedly so much less than before, teams don’t seem to come into stride until about the fourth or fifth game. I think we are seeing teams that were dysfunctional at first shape up and tighten up. This is the only way I can understand how the Niners destroyed the Cowboys earlier on, given this three game slide..

All that said, I still think he has very great vision and perception of the field and I expect more wins when the defense gets back from whatever bad journey they are on. I felt that this defense always improves in the second half of the game for whatever reason; i.e. offensive exhaustion, critical evaluation of who’s playing good on that day and what is working against them. And further, I expect them to tighten up as season progresses. Too much talent and too much pride. Radio guys are on Wilks but I dunno if he is the issue or not. I know Bosa is games behind the guys because of his holdout, maybe that matters, I dunno…

When I was channel-surfing the night before, I came upon the broadcast of the 89 Super Bowl with Joe Montana against the Bengals and pale Boomer. I was surprised that some of Montana’s passes were not that accurate as I remember (?ha) and Jerry and others had to jump or stretch to get them. I mention it because then I watched the game the next day and both Purdy and Burrow are playing high-level passing and timing. So its hard to give up on Brock and whine about him, like radio guys.

And PS: how could I not think about the relative draft status of Purdy versus Burrow yesterday? As in maybe a reason. Man, he looked great. I think the argument can be made that is doing more with less in terms of roster.

Hey, I am hilarious. :laughing

Yeah, I think the Niners will be fine, but the things I keep saying about Purdy being a low draft pick fr a reason are ringing more true as you say, now that he has been figured out a bit.

People are sleeping on the Bengals a bit now as they are down a little from the last 2 years and the are the fucking Bengals, but this team has been a legit Superbowl contender for that last 2 years in a row and is still a pretty good ball team.

It's not like they lost to the Bears or the Cards.

well my Raiders are finding new and wonderous ways to suck. Jimmy G ain't no Ducati
