Anyone ever been to the Nimitz House?

Really cool history for sure. A shame that it is deteriorating. Must have been some interesting conversations held there.

I ride out there a couple times a month from Oakland. It's a neat old place. IIRC, El Dirty did the kitchen floors years ago. There are four or five old houses there worth seeing. Really strange, under the big bridge like that.

Looks like an excellent spot for a BARF party :teeth

Used to rent for 5 hundo. I would be down. :p

If we could rent that place, we could fill it!

You should do it.

rent it.

"Mansion" under the bridge. Well it is. Looks like a nice architecture - now black with soot from the exhaust of the passing cars, as the article says.

maybe the only solution is a rental,,.. restaurant.. hotel.. bordello??? Movie theatre

Really strange, under the big bridge like that.

Well they put the bridge over the house, after they put up the house.

I Guess Demo is also a "solution". Cool house though!

Yes, I actually redid the floors in the kitchen there back when I ran a floor company like 20 years ago.

The rental thing is passé.

Sure would be cool though. Damn shame the State just lets it rot.

A couple shots

Here are tow photos. One is another view of the Mansion, with my bicycle in front, the other is another nearby house.

Yes. Back in the late 70s when CB'ing was really hot, I met a brother & sister at a "break" party on Albany Hill. Their dad was the YBI Coast Guard base commander and they lived in the Nimitz house (I think it was). I can't remember their names but the sister's handle was 'Island Girl' and their last name was Wildes.

Bicycle looks alright. You not one of those cheaters with the batteries;)

Cool houses.
I guess the second house might be related to architecture that you can find in San Francisco’s Presidio.

No batteries!

Yup, I'm an army brat, we lived in housing like that back in the fifties in Fort Sam Houston. It's almost like the Army paid the same architect to design housing all over the US.
