Nissan 2023 Z

Agreed on all of these, I just don't like the 'drifting = sideshows on public streets.' Look at any type of racing, and there are some jackasses trying to do a facsimile on public roads, drifting, drag racing, street racing, whatever.

I can't find the story, but I remember years ago, back when I was still in Utah, a story about how the police were paying to have some version of drag nights at one of the local race tracks. They allowed it to be open to anyone who wanted to run, and apparently they would periodically race too. pretty good idea to foster better relations and cut down on illegal street racing.

They were doing it here in San Diego, too. I thought it was a great idea.

There isn't one of us in here who wouldn't mind a chance to get behind the wheel of a Nissan GTR if we had the opportunity, appearances or not. :laughing

A friend loaned me his 2015 for a week a few years ago. It was fun enough, but when I took it out on back roads all I could think of was how much more fun I'd have on my bike, and stuck in traffic it SUCKED.

Awesome blasting off from lights, though...

ppl seem to forget that the og track and the og stig drifted that last turn on top gear, also check out any of the f1 drivers running the og top gear track, they are literally drifting every single corner - yet somehow they still put down the fastest times

Drivers of RWD sports cars call that controlled oversteer.

The goal is not to continue it once the apex has been reached and you have the throttle open.

Unable to do it any more at sorta kinda legal speeds as I had my suspension vastly improved in 2020 and the car sticks like glue at street speeds.

Back end stepping out while trying to turn a fast lap isn’t at all the same thing as a drifting competition. I would think that was obvious but I guess not.
Anyhow whatever turn your crank.

In F1, especially in Qualifying, there are groans when the rear end steps out as the lap is "lost."

I know that this is BARF and folks are going to turn almost every thread into a debate, but can we get back to the topic at hand; the new Z car?

I met a HAWT lady two days ago in the Costco parking lot. She was loading groceries into her 2020 Z. We started talking cars, (I was in my Mustang), and she stated that she did not like the new Z's $45K price tag. She said that her 2020 model was her 7th Z car.

Did I mention that she was HAWT, and she had a dog in the car too.

Well, even among racecars, F1 cars are pretty unique in design. What is fastest for them may not always be fastest for other racing.

Cool. I agree with her on the pricing. You went and already answered the one standard BARF question already.

......but did she know how to drift?
Isn't that what this thread is about?:laughing
PS: had a 1976 280 Z. Really liked that car but it only had 2-80 a/c and would roast you on hot days.
Traded it in on a new 5.0 Mustang in 88. :(

Takes skill to knit a sweater but I don’t want to watch anyone do that either.

Where is all this meh it’s gonna cost over 40k, 50k coming from?

I just saw a video from some small time YouTube guy interviewing an actual Nissan rep at the Houston Auto Show saying that the car is going to start in the 30s…with the 400hp V6.

Sure you want to load it up with leather, and all the packages I’m sure you can come close to 50 grand. But it’s been unofficially set to start in the mid 30s range for months now.

And like I said, if you’re factoring in the current state of the market plus the new model hype gotta be first on the block to have it which will no doubt drive actual delivered prices up over sticker? That’s fine. But that’s also like saying you don’t want a Camry right now because that’s 40 grand. A new C8 is a bargain at $60k…which is what the sticker starts at. Not so much at $100k which is what the current market demands.

Nissan Communications Manager posted an apology and corrected the woman in the video mentioned above on the nissanzclub forum stating the base price would be "around $40,000" USD.

$40K seems very reasonable.

Well ain’t that a slap in the face. You hear something from an official Nissan employee at an auto show (talking to press on what is obviously a press day since hardly anybody was in there), you can pretty much take that as gospel.

I was thinking $36,999 or something, but after reading “around 40” now I’m thinking they’ll maybe come in at 42 and think that’s fine. Which it still is. You’ll still get all the power for the base price. But Nissan is no longer in a position (maybe never was) to price above the class. They think they’re competing with Supra? No. They should compete with Mustang/Camaro. And those cars can be had with 400+hp for mid to high $30k.
