Some fast ones and some dirty ones.

It was admittedly a bit of a shit hole but I have fond memories of waiting for the ferry after a day in the city and choking back greasy calamari and a few Coronas while sitting next to some uniquely odd San Francisco character. Each time I was there was exactly the same experience.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I think I'm going to miss that place.

The food was terrible, it won't be missed.

I missed my one shot to get there. I'd be more empathetic except the owners are liars that keep saying "ok we'll leave" and then "Fuck you we changed out mind" costing the port thousands in fines.

You don't get to decide how stuff works just because you've been somewhere a long time. Reminds me of renters who feel like they own the place because they've been paying sub-market rent for 30 years.

Solid 2 star rating after 500+ reviews...

"Consumer Alert: Poor Food Safety Score!"

This place would be awesome if it was one of those gimmick restaurant's where the food's terrible, the service sucks, and the waiter's all have "don't give a flying ____" attitudes. Unfortunately, it is not. This place needs to be put of it's misery. Seriously. Gross, gross, gross.

All I have to say is to please steer clear from Sinbad's. If I could give zero stars I would.

etc

The port has been trying to get rid of Sinbad’s for months, but the three Stinson brothers, who operate the restaurant, have held on — first by claiming the port had acted in bad faith and later by declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Sinbad’s lost both cases in court. So the game was up Monday.

Agreed HHM.
No dispute there.
The food will not be missed, more the institution.
(....but I also freely admit it could just be me)

I have no doubt it was good back in the day, but from reading the article's comments the owners just let it go to shit. You see there are wait staff and chefs there for 30 years...who would hire them now? From a reputation for disgusting cleanliness and terrible service?

I wonder if the food was ever anything other than average. I kinda doubt it.
It was a bar with a view that happened to have a kitchen and that's about it.
I tend to resist change. I don't deny that may be what's going on here.

Food was mediocre, but was a great old-school SF divey bar.

I'm sure but it's in a terrible location that is not near anyone I know. The one time my friends went for drinks was because they were coming back from Angel Island.

Google does.

I'm sure you'd find something to sap the joy out of a place even if it was a multi-star restaurant.... It's how you roll! :laughing

Not true. If you look at my yelp distribution of reviews it's pretty bell curve shaped.

I'm not the one sucking the joy out of a place, that was the idiotic owners.

It was an old school, may have been swanky in a different era, but never felt the need to move along with the times, classic SF dive, with a priceless view.... nothing more was expected, nothing more was asked, nothing more was given.

I'm pretty certain the city asked them to leave several times nicely, and they got a big :twofinger in response, but sure.

You just summed up its appeal (for me anyway) perfectly.

Great spot for a Bloody Mary and a quick bite on your way to the Giants game.

I'll miss it for it's location

I will always be amazed at people who vigorously argue about things that don't really matter.. nor even affect them sometimes.

This guy...
... just called a waterfront place with proximity to a market and transport.. "a terrible location".. :facepalm

just weird :laughing

For me to go to I mean, it's not a place I ever go to accidentally...I don't pass by it and go "While I'm here I might as well go eat/drink at Sinbad's", not that once you're there its a bad location. Unless you live there nobody I know happens to pass it by.

Also, that's what the internet is for. I'm bored out of my mind with no work to do likely until next week, and this sort of keeps me sane.

I've never met anyone anywhere in my life that recommended a restaurant that had shitty shitty food as part of the charm.

It's just sad they couldn't leave with some class
