Looked like an awful lot of force to be used that soon IMO, but I'm not an LEO. I think he should have waited longer and used less force.

I picked #3

He may have been able to "talk" to him a lil longer... however, I'd want to see the suspect's hands a lil sooner. (If I was the Officer, if he would have showed me his hands- we'd have still been talking nicely, hell- we may even had split a Happy Meal.)

LVMPD doesn't screw around.

I went with the 2nd. IMO, the officer could have used less force to take him down. That said, I think it was obvious that he was not going to get compliance anytime soon, so the officer waited long enough.

is this for real?

the kid might've bee an asshole, no, let's change that to stupid, but a little patience might have been in order. Maybe he was a retard?

Should he have? I think he did what was necessary to get the guy to do what he wanted/told him to.

Could he have? I'm not sure - probably, but I've never been in a cituation like that so I wouldn't be able to say.

Nor should they. Ahhh, Las Vegas, this guy just might have lost all his money shooting craps or roulette and now being confronted by a police officer.....

I'm pretty sure, the dept. and the independent police review board supported the officers actions even if they were a little excessive.

I went with #3 also. The tactic was effective, because the first thing someone is going to do if their neck is targeted is remove their hands from the pockets and/or drop anything they may have had in their hands to protect their neck ( Ya best protect ya neck :laughing ).

The officer could have stepped back and gone to OC or tazer also, but this was equally effective, and in the end was definitely less painful for the suspect.

I just hope the Vader Grip is within Las Vegas Metro's Use of Force Policy. :laughing

He obviously wasn't responding to the officers request to remove his hands from his pockets. I'm surprised neither officer had their sidearm out, since they didn't know what he had in his pocket.

But that being said, the choke grip seemed a bit excessive but within the realm of reasonable reaction.

The officer was unsure of any weapons in his pockets or hands. Asked him several times to remove his hands from his pockets. I think the officer did exactly what he need to do to netralize the situation. " as stated" the officer have use thed tazer.

I saw nothing wrong.

The guy was being passive resistant. He wasn't trying to attack the cop or run away, but he wasn't doing what he was repeatedly being asked to do. The officer felt it was necessary to use a compliance technique in order to gain control of the individual.

Hell, if it was in Albuquerque, he would have been tazered after the 2nd warning!

I'm sure the officer was playing for the camera. I also think his adequate amount of force was misplaced. He was concerned the man had something in his pockets put his first action wasn't for his arms. The cop wanted to play big on TV.

My civilian opinion thinks that 2 cops with tazers/guns could have contained this guy without slamming his head into the pavement.

I voted 3, it was within reason. However, one serious threat by the LEO and the hillbilly complies, realizing this is not a game <- my guess.

If this guy wasn't so drunk/stoned and he might have instinctively tried to protect himself from the attack, without no malice really. That would be a bit unfair had he been charged with attacking a LEO etc. in that scenario.

I thought it was a little excessive. The guy didn't have his hands deep in his pockets like he was reaching for a weapon, it looked like he had the bottom half of his fingers in there. Yes, he wasn't complying, but it didn't look like he was a threat, though to be fair, it's hard to assess without hearing what the suspect was saying and without being in the situation.

I don't think the cop probably did anything illegal, but I thought there could have been a warning before the take down. It did seem like the cop was doing a little huffing and puffing for the camera, and was amped before he even pulled into the parking lot.

By the way....... the guy was deaf

no one thought about that

:twofinger

honestly, the video does not give enough info for me to pass judgement hence no vote

VERY borderline, but I went with #2.

I'm regretting that now, though. He could have easily OC'd the guy, and both are about equal IMO. I'll go with kosher, but doesn't look too good. I do not, however, believe you will EVER see me do that.

If a moderator feels so inclined, lose my #2 and make it a #3.

I voted for #1. The guy wasn't a threat to the officer. He shouldn't have been attacked in the first place. He should have tried to grab his hand first to put cuffs on them, but dont go straight for the throat. That's bad form. If he physically resists arrest then beat him down.

"attacked in the first place"

:laughing

Perhaps if the suspect wasn't fighting in public before the police got there, maybe this all would have never happened. Maybe he shouldn't have gone to Vegas for the weekend.

Do you think there may have been alcohol and/or drugs involved?:wow

If I'm reaching for the gun I often carry in my pocket, my hand doesn't go in deep because the grip isn't at the bottom of the pocket.
