Whats the consensus on bang for the buck all around off road tires for Norcal. No need for soft, mud, etc type tires. A set needs to last all year and I'll deal with the few days of mud I actually ride in - everything is always a compromise. Carnegie rocks, Cow Mtn hard pack, Tahoe granite, Fire roads, Hollister trails, Socal/Mexican Desert. I think that most of my riding is in hard pack and rocks. Used Pir MT21s, Dunlop D606s, Mich AC10s and S12s. Looking for best price wear and decent grip for the TE450.

I've been pretty happy with this tire. My only complaint is that the outer knobbies like to tear, so I don't know about it lasting a year. This might be better for all the hard terrain you mention, but I have no first hand experience with it. I've been pretty happy with Maxxis in general as far as what you get for your money.

I agree with the first link. The Maxxis IT tire has worked well for me on a CRF150F, CR500R and XR600R.

There are two maxxis IT tires. The regular IT and a more durable desert IT with a harder compound, bigger knobs and a stiffer carcass. The desert IT has much better grip than the D606 or MT21.

The S12 is a soft terrain tire. I shredded a rear of the old version in two days at a dry carnegie. The S12 front lasted a reasonably long time and had good grip, but the knobs tore a bit.

Maxxis IT on the rear is a great combination of grip, durability and longevity. I'm on my third one and have never chunked a knobby. The Maxxis Desert IT wears longer, but it is HEAVY and doesn't come in narrower sizes for smaller displacement bikes - wider tires makes the bike more difficult to turn. Still have not found a front tire that I like -- going to try the the Michelin S12 next because I have one sitting in the garage (came with the KTM in the spares kit).

I have heard good things about the Desert IT, but have been hesitant to try one due to the large 140 one size fits all rear...... Im running the Mich AC10 in the rear now and the S12 in front. The S12 front has not held up great in the rocks and given its inteaded purpose I guess thats about right. Via thumpertalk, the consensus is to not use the Maxxis IT front - but use the ST instead.

Never used a 140 rear on a dirtbike... how much harder doesnt it make the single track (my preferred riding)?

You will notice the 140 on the rear. It's wider, taller and significantly heavier. If I were riding Mojave it would be my tire of choice. There was one on my 250 when I bought it and ended up replacing it before it wore out as the downsides to handling outweighed the benefits of longevity. For single track I would run the recommended tire size for your bike with the Maxxis IT.

Michelin M12 is my favorite front no matter where i am, but the rear depends on riding. The wet loamy dirt of western Washington i run the dunlop 756, but it has been a couple years since i have ridden.

Hey CJ, how the fuck's it goin?
I've been running Motoz tires for the last year, and I'll tell ya- all the hype is true.
They last, hook up, and on occasion, can replace the urge for self love. :shocker
