Official brake and light inspection location

This!!!
I was looking for the address of that station.

Sorry for the short posting earlier. I was on the ipad!

Before you go for the BnL inspection make sure the following are working

1. brake lights work with foot break and hand brake.

2. Running light is working

3. blinkers work on back and front

4. THIS ONE GOT ME GOOD. Make sure your high beam indicator is working.

5. Make sure you got some brake pads. It's a visual inspection and they won't take the tire off cause you know, thats work.

I had to jimmy the crap outta the eletrics to get my high beam indicator working correctly.

and don't forget your wallet :laughing

I also was in the process to register my recent acquired motorcycle as a salvage vehicle with the DMV and so I had to get the CHP to inspect it (VIN # verification) and a brake and light inspection/certificate from a DMV certified service center.

I called the SF CHP to schedule an appointment, but the soonest they can fit me is about 4 weeks out (because CHP does VIN verifications ONLY on Weds). So I decided to call Redwood City and Marin since they are the next closest to SF. Marin CHP told me their schedule was wide open today and thus I booked and appointment.
While I was there for the VIN check, I mentioned to Officer Silva that I also needed a brake and light inspection/certification but I had a lot of trouble finding a certified service center. I called the DMV and Auto Repair Consumer Affairs, and all they did was, they gave me a list of service centers for cars but were unable to confirm if they are certified to do motorcycles. After some digging on BARF I found this tread and the mention of a 76 Gas station in Castro Valley. I told Officer Silva it was a bit far to ride all the way from SF and asked him if he knew of any other licensed shop nearby. He gave the info for two places:

Fernando's Auto Repair
35 Medway Rd.
San Rafael, CA 94901
(415) 460-1708
I called them and spoke with Elva. She said they are licensed to do motos and so I went there. It took about 20 mins and I was done and on my to SF DMV with $75 less in my pocket.

The other place I didnt call, but if it is closer to some of you, then you may want to look into it.

Excelsior Auto Clinic
86 Suite F Hamilton Drive
Ignacio, CA
(415) 883-2347

Good luck!!

I just spoke with:
SF Auto Care
1780 Folsom St
(between 14th St & Erie St)
San Francisco, CA 94103
Neighborhood: Mission
(415) 553-8899

He said that they are approved for Brake and light inspection certificates on Moto in CA. $90 No appointment necessary.
Saves some time and bridge toll.

Got one done at Fernando's yesterday $75

Really helpful and valuable info here. I had no idea the days of 'wink wink nudge nudge' moto inspections were done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. And Entoptic, you may have gone through hell, but you likely saved a lot of us from going through the same hell: good karma!

Now, I'm going to have to be more diligent in fixing my own wonky wiring harness :(

Just for info - Daly City accepted my Statement of Facts form last week for the brake and light. It really seems to depend if the DMV gods are on your side or not. CHP inspection next for me.

This is what I'll do as it's in the city.

But since my CHP appointment is a month away I am going to be slow and lazy.

I recently got my salvaged bike registered with a statement of facts and no reflectors. Like I said, it all depends on the person on the other side of the DMV counter. FYI, I went to Vallejo for the temp operating permit and walnut creek once I had received the chp inspection.

I just got my bike inspected by the CHP and the guy insisted that all I need is a statement of facts and that the light and brake cert is for cars. he said if they don't accept that then to ask for a supervisor.

CHP and brake light

Hi Fellow riders,

Im new to this forum.

I bought a 03 600rr salvaged two days ago and i went to the dmv and they said

i needed CHP vin Verification and Brake and Lamp. im in san jose,ca and went

to the one on alma. so heres my question: Thank you in advance.

1: What does CHP check? Vins only? or will they look at the lights and stuff too?
and/or fairings?

(head light is hid, front signals are integrated, aftermarket exhaust, licenses plate relocated, rear signals are led zip tied to backet)

2: with all the mods mentioned will chp bring it up and not pass me?

3: from the list of mods what do i need to change to pass break and lamp ?

4:where is a good place to do break and lamp in san jose?

5: how long is the wait time for chp as of now?

Thank you for the time!
