Old Skool Sk8rs...

first board was a santa cruz, the one with the bubbles.

rodney mullin was the man back then. others tired but no one could do it like rodney.
I still have my original bones brigade video somehwere. I got it for Christmas when I was in middle school or something and watched it 10 times a day. I shoud find it up in the rafters and transfer it to a windows mediwa file & offer it up for fellow barfers to relive their youth. Cleaning the garage is on the list for 05 so I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

didn't 'gator' kill kis girlfriend? do they still call it a 'mctwist'
and did anyone ever make the trip up to 'mile high ramp' in north tahoe? that ramp was sick. being as i couldn't drive at the time, i had to beg my parents to take me up there a couple times a year which i was lucky enough they did.

Mullen is the man...godfather of skating! a lot of that looks like footage from Daewon vs. Mullen...still kicks ass.

Its actually from his unlockable vid from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - which was a trimmed down version of his part in the Globe Shoes video, "Opinion" I have it around, maybe I'll capture, encode & upload it. His part in it is surreal - doesn't even look like skating, just like magic.

It's funny, I was just talking about Rodney with some friends at the party I was at last night, how he and Per Werlinder used to skate for Powell Peralta, and used to compete with one another. As vert & freestyle skating started to dissolve, Powell urged Rodney to develop what became street skating, while they kept Werlinder on the freestyle front, which fell flat on its face shortly thereafter.

I rocked Powell deck with indys and kryptonite slimeballs undil the deck busted in the early 90's. I went into a skate shop to replace it to find that the world of skating had gone tech - slim boards and tiny wheels. All the pavement where I gre up (Forestville) was all chunky and rocky, and those tiny, hard wheels wouldn't roll. I gave it up, but came back to it a few years ago, but finally gave it up again after i kept spraining my wrists over and over again.

I miss the days of skating hard all day, going to a friends house for food, watching skate videos, and then getting amped up and going out and skating all night.

My favorite deck was the Natas Kappas(sp?) deck that I got at a skate contest at Sac Raceway in like '86? Tossed in the crowd and wrestled for 20 minutes for it!!

I'm waiting for them to re-release the 3 Bones Brigade vids as a collectible DVD set...:(

Guerrero was my favorite street skater.

I used to have Steve Caballero's bands album a ways back. Can't remember the name of it though..

I'm one of the guys who got suckered into skateboarding by the Bones Brigade.

Mullen was my idol. I couldn't do big stuff like Salman Agah or Hosoi or Barbee so I got technical instead. I was one of the first kids to master kickflips, quickly moved on to heelflips, pressure flips, etc.

Coolest experience of my skating life: skating with Steve Caballero and Tommy Guerrero at the Embarcadero, back in 1993 or so. I don't know how I managed not to break any bones on the Gonz.

Edit, I called it quits right about the time Mullen busted out the darkslides. I went through so many Vans, decks and grip tape trying to copy him, with very little success.

:laughing

yea dude. i had a mullen mini. the good ole days..... listening to Minor Threat, skating.

Grew up half-block away from the Positive Force house (aka the Discord house) back east in Arlington VA.

When I was about 15 I remember all my older friends making a stink about Ian McKaye showing up at one of our fall sessions in Rosslynn. I had NO idea who the fuck he was at that point, or even that Fugazi was anything other than a neighborhood band.

DOH!

And back on topic... my black Steve Cab with the red dragon was blingin before bling was bling. Mullen smullen.

Cool video. Still got my "Jeff Phillips" Sims convex board with independent trucks, vision shredders wheels, and ugly stix rails from the early 80s. Still works great. Used to skate in the concrete drainage basins in the south bay.

OMG!

Total flashback...

Scorp, I had a Gonz too and did my fair share of skating at Embarcadero. I loved those days and the scars on my knees and elbows remind me how much "fun" it was ;)

Tony Alva baby!!!
