Check Kelly Blue book, NADA, CycleTrader, Ebay, Craigslist (even though some people on Craigslist are asking non-realistically high prices and will never be able to sell the bike at their asking price), and know what the current market value of a similar bike is before considering a purchase. Consider the maintenance work or fixes that YOU need to do to the bike, and factor that into the price. It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.

    • Comments within a sale thread should be on topic and educational. Aggressive critiques and inside jokes will not be tolerated. Don't fuck it up, because the next step is disabling the "reply" feature entirely.
    • If you disagree with a price, keep it to yourself. The seller has set the price. If you don't like it, don't buy it and move on. If you really feel strongly about it, then PM the seller.

The perfect truck to haul around your toys or tow your trailer!

Due to changing needs, I've decided to sell our 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT 4x4 Cummins Turbo Diesel. I bought it new in 2005 and has been an amazingly reliable, powerful and capable truck.

It has:
- 325 hp/610 ft pound, 5.9 liter I-6 Cummins turbo diesel which runs like on day one and gets 20 miles/gallon average!
- solid front and rear axle
- 4x4 with high & low range
- towing package with 17K lbs tow rating (including "wide" adjustable towing mirrors)
- bedliner to protect the 6 1/4 foot bed
- sidesteps to make it easy to get in/out
- factory tinted privacy glass for the rear passengers
- sliding rear window
- AC, cruise control, dual power seats, power windows, power locks, stereo with CD player
- premium 17" factory wheels with relatively new tires (at around 70%)

It has 193K miles (which is "nothing" for this engine),especially because we mostly used it to haul our motorcycle or building materials for our house. It has been properly maintained and we just did the following work within the last 12 months (with receipts):
- full brake job
- tie rod bushings
- alignment
- tires (about 70% now)
- new water pump, serpentine belt and coolant flush
- oil & filter change

Interior in very nice shape (never smoked in). Overall the exterior is in nice shape; it does have the typical rock chips and a few minor scrapes and little door dings/dents. Asking $16.5K.

Truck actually makes 610lb ft of torque. Love my '06 2wd with the 6speed manual. 24mpg on the highway @65
 
If you're looking for a rock solid diesel, snatch this up. I've got an '07, same model, it totally crushes for hauling or towing. 5.9L Cummins is the best diesel, bar none.

My bro in law had this exact same model/year, used it for his landscaping biz. Towed a 10K lb tractor daily and never had an issue with well over 200K miles. All his Ford and Chevy/GMC diesels had problems. That's why we bought ours.
 
I've pulled a fully loaded toy hauler over the Tehachapi Mountains and up Hwy 80 past Tahoe into Nevada several times with no problems, passing cars with the AC cranked.

I've also hauled over one ton of Landscape rock and gravel in the bed on different occasions.

Man this is tempting. With my current truck on its last legs, if this were a long bed or manual it may have very well be in my driveway. Even so, tempting. GLWS!
 
It's very tempting to me because I can't keep stalling on getting a more appropriate family and toy hauler. My '88 Ranger is perfect for toy hauling, but I can't bring my family, and my Mazda 626 keeps getting smaller now that our family's growing.

Thing is, when I was younger, my family had a '96 Dodge Caravan that was such a lemon, it turned me off any Dodge vehicle. :(

LOL....I bought a new 96 Grand Caravan before right before Tyler was born. Rear brake springs popped loose at 500 miles, water pump out at 20K miles and 3 transmissions by 140K.

But for some reason that new Dodge Hellcat is calling my name.:teeth

I've never owned another Dodge, but my RAM 2500 has been awesome.

I'm a Ford guy, I bought the RAM on my Bro in Law's recommendation as a real world user of all three brands, (he's a Ford guy too) and a friend who used to help pit the Kore Baja race team. He said the Dodge is the only truck that can handle Baja.

This truck and that van share absolutely nothing except a brand name. I also had an old lemon of a Chrysler minivan, but I'd buy a diesel Ram in a hot second.
