Oracle USA

WTF? The biggest comeback victory in the history of the near oldest sports competition known to man, and there is no rioting in the streets? No burning flaming Muni buses on the Embarcadero? No Rolls Royce side shows? Everyone is just quietly and calmly walking back to their offices? So disappointed. ;)

:laughing so much this!!

The one percenters are lighting Cuban cigars with hundreds instead of twenties.

Actually supposedly the *whole* Pier (main venue + awards ceremony etc) 27 was all closed off due to having too many people on it.

I'm Pretty happy over here , good to share event info and news with BARFers :)

Provincial! :hand They have $1000 bills! :laughing :twofinger

I have to say, just watching the craft lift out of the water and run on hydrofoils was freaking crazy!

Considering how many people loathe Larry and distanced themselves from the team, I would be very surprised to see a ticker tape rainfall....lest we be hypocrites. Oh, that NEVER happens. Nyuk.

The worst part about this is that now we're going to have to hear about Larry for the next month, then go through this all over again in a couple years. I'll bet the Larry takes the city council to the cleaners once again, they don't strike me as being smart enough to learn from past mistakes.

I think the win is awesome.

Wait..... is it just me or does Rick (Machete) look like a stone cold double of Julian from Trailor Park Boys? Thanks for the pic Absolutenduser, and the Jager Bassem! Barf salute AC 2013 style......

Would you have gone to a parade for Ted Turner, he won the cup... to his credit, he actually captained the Courageous himself.

The AC72's are amazing craft. We saw something truly special, something I never thought I'd see. Regardless of what I think of Larry and the AC Organziation, that was a great spectacle.

Not to take anything away from Spithill and the crew, they did an amazing job. But I'd have paid to be a fly on the wall to know what they changed on the boat to gain that much speed upwind this past week. Racing is all about tweaking, and they tweaked something right. :thumbup

He will thow himself one and then send us (the city) a bill. :thumbdown

wut? no way, not here in CA. /sarc

I suppose everyone has forgotten part of why Oracle is so big in CA and why the hate:

and it goes on worldwide:

not to mention the backdoor dealings that led to the SF shakedown.

So, is Oracle toast? I think Oracle's toast. All of Larry's money and all of Larry's men could not win The America's Cup again...

Well, I'll be dipped in shit: I was wrong.

Welp, I'm sort of used to that feeling. So, [claps hands together] who want's ice cream?

Good work, Spithill, et al...

When USA won the second race yesterday, I knew that barring an act of God, the kiwis were going to lose the cup. And it played out today just like it did yesterday...USA was simply faster.

Ellison: "I'd love to hold it in SF again...I have a house here!"

I'd love to see it here again, too!

didnt read the thread, but I dont suppose adding a tactician with helmsman experiance had anything to do with it. Naw, must have been those late night
bondo sessions on the foils. YAH USA!!!

Yes and one with tons of experience helming fast planing craft. You could see an immediate improvement in Oracle's upwind performance when Ben Ainslie cam on board and it got better and better.

Planing and and now foiling upwind, takes a particular skill-set and Ainslie has Olympic Gold medals in it. :thumbup Oracle managed 30kts upwind on foils - absolutely stunning :wow

What surprised me was that the Kiwi's performance upwind never got any better. They kept on replaying yesterday's game and yesterday's paradigm.

I was sat next to a buddy who is a high end yacht broker today, when the commentator noted that sailing had just changed for ever. My buddy agreed to the effect of "who's going to buy a 40-60ft racing mono-hull when you could have a 40ft foiling cat and rule the Bay".

all i know is, that shit was sick!

at first, i was like., two boats? weaksauce! then i read into the inner workings of the americas cup. fascinating. its like a gentlemens duel, with million dollar boats. and how fast they go, and turn those things. fucking cool.

then, the fact that we came back from certain defeat was even better! i happen to be eating lunch at soma streatfood and watched it live, fun was had.

Pretty fun day, watched from the pier right next to the finish line. First race I attended, glad I went! Gotta say, splitting crazy traffic on the Embarcadero was damn fun too...

foiling upwind. mind boggling. gonna watch it right now.
Larry Ellison is my hero. another fucking nut case:teeth
